Senior Accountant

Position Summary

Minnkota Power Cooperative is seeking applicants for a Senior Accountant in our Financial Reporting & Budgeting department at our headquarters in Grand Forks North Dakota. TheSenior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the general ledger accounts and reviewing the general ledger for accuracy. This position will also coordinate the completion of the month-end close process for Minnkota Power Cooperative and its subsidiaries.

The pay range for this position begins at $ compensation will be determined based on a candidates skills education and any previous relevant experience.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Process and Maintain Accounting Records
    • Drive timely completion of monthly closing procedures
    • Assist in managing the chart of accounts
    • Reconcile various Trial Balance accounts
    • Oversee EIA and other tax forms and submissions
    • Oversee transmission depreciation and cost of service studies
    • Support document and record retention
  • Administer and Report on Asset Records
    • Close capital projects into property records
    • Maintain asset records and depreciation schedules
    • Collaborate with project managers to determine capital versus expense projects
  • Support Renewable Energy Credit (REC) Programs
    • Record and reconcile REC sales
    • Administer MN compliance process
    • Analyze reporting and tracking of RECs
  • Perform Auditing Duties
    • Perform external contract audits
    • Provide documentation for the annual audit of financial statements
    • Provide support and documentation for grant requests and audits
  • Administer Financial Modules in ERM System
    • Open and close accounting periods
    • Reconcile subledgers to General Ledger and correct any issues
    • Troubleshoot errors in IFS with the assistance of the IT department
  • Assist with Operation and Maintenance Budget for Minnkota and its Subsidiaries

Job Qualification Standards

Education and Training

  • Position requires a bachelors degree in accounting. A CPA license is desirable but not required.
  • Must maintain a valid drivers license.

Experience

  • Minimum 6 to 8 years of progressively responsible accounting experience. Equivalent combinations of education certification and directly related experience may be considered.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position the employee is exposed to an office environment indoors and will travel outdoors to multiple locations dependent on work.
