Job Description

Summary

Shipping & Receiving Manager coordinates and supervises the work activities of personnel engaged in verifying and keeping records of incoming and outgoing shipments. Reviews shipping notices bills of lading invoices orders and determines priorities. Allocates methods required to meet shipping and receiving requirements. Supervise scheduling of shipments utilizing shipping procedures routes and rates that use the most cost-efficient platform.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Recommend optimal transportation modes routing and frequency
  • Implements material flow management to meet production requirements
  • Trains department personnel in roles and responsibilities
  • Supervises inbound and outbound logistics activities to assure accuracy and completeness
  • Supervises the packing of items and the verification of related paperwork
  • Determines cost effective shipping methods and verifies that complete orders have been shipped and received in accordance with requirements
  • Oversees inventory of all shipping supplies including boxes packing materials tape labels and any special supplies
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving to storage and work locations.
  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications
  • Determines space requirements and position of shipment and layouts

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job provides general supervision to a functional area which may include supervision of lower-level supervisors and direct supervision of other exempt and non-exempt personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include providing leadership to employees interviewing hiring and training employees; planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. This supervisor will also be responsible for interviewing and hiring candidates as well as rewarding and disciplining employees under their supervision.

  • Ability to communicate professionally to customers carriers and personnel.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelors degree (B.S.) from a four- year college or university in one of the following disciplines:

  • Business Administration
  • Logistics/Supply Chain Management
  • Accounting
  • Management

This candidate will also need to have 0-2 years of directly related experience and or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read analyze and interpret general business notifications or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write shipping/receiving procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from suppliers managers customers and other personnel.
  • Ability to speak to all levels of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts like rates percentages and weights that are practical in logistics.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems collects data establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills

  • To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of relevant software programs.

Other Essential Duties

  • Follows all import/export requirements consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of specific software (design analysis ERP)
  • Experience with Costpoint is highly desirable

Other Qualifications

  • US Citizenship with ability to attain/maintain government security clearance.
  • Ability to travel (domestically/internationally) approximately /-10%
