Job Summary

The Director of HR in an AEC firm is a senior executive partner responsible for shaping the companys peoples strategy fostering organizational culture and ensuring HR programs drive business performance. This role focuses on high-level HR strategy organizational development executive advisory and compliance rather than day-to-day recruitment or transactional HR activities.


Key Responsibilities

Strategic HR Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the executive team on all HR and organizational matters including workforce planning succession planning and organizational design.
  • Develop and implement long-term HR strategies that support company growth project delivery excellence and talent optimization.
  • Lead organizational change initiatives and support large-scale project-driven transformations.

Organizational Development & Culture

  • Champion company culture employee engagement diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
  • Oversee leadership development programs executive coaching and performance management frameworks.
  • Drive initiatives to improve productivity retention and employee satisfaction at all levels.
  • Compensation Benefits & HR Policy
  • Oversee strategic compensation planning executive incentives and benefits programs aligned with AEC industry benchmarks.
  • Ensure compliance with federal state and local employment regulations (ADA FLSA OSHA interface EEOC).
  • Develop policies that balance organizational objectives with workforce well-being.

HR Operations & Metrics

  • Oversee HR operations systems analytics and reporting to inform business decisions.
  • Set HR performance metrics and provide insights to the executive team to measure organizational health.
  • Partner with finance and operations to align HR budgets and resources with strategic objectives.

Executive Advisory

  • Advise executives on high-impact HR issues employee relations labor relations (if applicable) and leadership decisions.
  • Lead senior-level organizational initiatives such as mergers acquisitions or large-scale reorganizations.


Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources Business Administration or related field; Masters or MBA preferred.
  • 10 years of progressive HR experience with senior leadership roles ideally within the AEC or professional services industries.
  • SHRM-SCP SPHR or equivalent executive-level certification preferred.
  • Proven experience leading organization-wide HR strategy culture development and executive HR advisory.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law compliance and HR systems including workforce analytics.
