The Coe College Department of Music seeks to hire an adjunct instructor starting August 2026 to support the work of the department. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to: - Rehearse and direct ensembles such as Concert Band Jazz Band or Choir or to direct musical theatre.
- Teach general education courses such as World Music American Music Music Fundamentals/Music Theory or other courses appropriate for both music majors (and minors) and general education students.
Responsibilities: - Direct instrumental ensembles (Concert Band and Jazz Band) during faculty sabbaticals
- Teach Music of the World (MU 166).
- Teach other courses or direct ensembles (or musical theatre) within the curriculum as fits the needs of the department and the strengths of the candidate. The successful candidate might occasionally have the opportunity to create new courses in alignment with their skills and interests.
- Work with the rest of the music faculty to promote student achievement in the ensembles and in the classroom.
- Assist with recruitment and retention of students.
- Participate in the daily activities of the department including assisting with concert and festival preparation serving on audition and jury committees and hosting prospective student visits.
- Faculty at Coe College are known for being highly accessible to additional to teaching responsibilities the successful applicant will be expected to be able to hold regular office hours and be responsive to student email questions.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
- Master of Music Degree or the equivalent.
- Three years experience teaching music and/or directing ensembles or musical theatre at the K-12 level.
- The ideal candidate will also have experience teaching at the post-secondary level.
