The Role

Working with the Mental Health Team the Sexual Violence Prevention & Education Coordinator is responsible for developing delivering and evaluating campaigns workshops and trainings within the scope of sexual violence prevention and response at NWP. This is a 0.4 FTE position on a one year temporary appointment. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will be required to work two 7hr days (Thursday and Fridays - typically 8:30am to 4:30pm with an unpaid lunch hour) with the possibility that they may be requested to work an alternate day at times based on department need and events. Flexible hours will be required during days that events are to be held with possibly a later start or end time on those days.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates campus-wide sexual violence prevention and awareness initiatives in a variety of formats at NWP sites.
  • Seeks opportunities to engage external organizations/individuals who can provide specialized training and education to our campus community.
  • Works to assess and improve access to reporting of sexual violence for students on campus.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with campus partners and identifies opportunities to collaborate on initiatives.
  • Liaises with other post-secondary institutions provincially to share best practices and partner on joint program and campaign development.
  • Oversees the recruitment and management of student volunteers engaging in awareness initiatives on campus.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have a diploma or bachelors degree in a related discipline and two years experience related to sexual violence prevention education and awareness campaign development. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:

  • proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • knowledge of sexual and gender-based violence issues in the post-secondary setting;
  • demonstrated understanding of the differential impacts of trauma particularly on diverse community members and survivor centered practice;
  • ability to manage discussions related to emotional topics using well developed communication skills;
  • strong organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • ability to build strong relationships across the organization; and
  • a high level of integrity professionalism and accountability.
