Job Summary
Up to (24) anticipated teaching positions in Brooklines STAR Academy a summer program for English learners and METCO students entering grades PreK through 8.
Program Information:
- The program runs from Monday July 27th through Friday August 14 2026 and instruction takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The program may be extended on specific dates to accommodate project-based learning experiences.
- The projected class size is twenty students. Each class will have a lead teacher and shared additional support (ex. assistant/paraprofessional).
- Additional staff including a program director assistant director team leader teacher assistants paraprofessionals and adjustment counselors are expected to be a part of the program.
Teacher Responsibilities:
- Work from 8:15 am to 12:45 pm daily except on days when the program may be extended to accommodate special programming.
- Attend up to 3 meetings/orientation sessions prior to the start of the program up to 3 meetings during the program and commit to a maximum of 6 hours of paid preparation before the program begins.
- Enhance and teach a curriculum that provides opportunities for students to increase their skills in reading writing speaking and comprehension as well as learn content area vocabulary and concepts.
- Communicate as needed with families and report on each students progress.
Job Requirements:
- Experience teaching students in any grades PreK-8
- Knowledge of best instructional practices in teaching English as a second language and supporting content learning for all students
- Knowledge of local and state learning expectations in ELA Math Science and Social Studies
- Ability to implement culturally responsive teaching practices that support the diverse needs of students in the program
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues
- MA teaching license (SEI Endorsement preferred)
- At least 3 years of relevant experience preferred
- Masters degree preferred
- Citizenship residency or work VISA in United States required
- Attend all meetings that are scheduled for STAR Academy staff to the greatest extent possible
- Be energetic with a strong desire to work with children
- Communicate effectively- both in written and oral form- using positive interpersonal skills
- Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information
- Model responsible use of technology including personal cell phones
- Provide a safe learning environment for students
- Be a positive role model for students
- Be fluent in English; knowledge of another language is strongly preferred
