Team description

The Area Lead Trading Book Risks is responsible for leading model validation and model risk management activities across several key regulatory financial risk model domains. For Trading Book this covers Market Risk Counterparty Credit Risk (CCR) & x-Valuation Adjustments (XVA) Valuation (Risk) & Pricing and Algorithmic Trading. The Area Lead manages high-value specialist teams of model validators facing increasing strategic challenges driving quality efficiency and effective stakeholder relationships in a rapidly evolving regulatory environment.

Specific Function

Model Risk Management (MoRM) in a nutshell; Models are an imperfect reflection of reality. Models impact our business and we use models for decision making throughout ING. We need to manage uncertainties and shortcomings in our models as there are risks involved. Are we sure that the output leads to the right decision Models are a great asset but come with a risk that needs to be managed. The purpose of the Model Risk Management department is to ensure that models drive business value safely. Thats why weve created a cross-domain Model Risk Management Framework helping us identifying classifying recording and validating models we use across ING. For example Credit Market KYC Operational and Pricing models. Together with our stakeholders in e.g. Model Development and COO Risk we try to obtain the best models for ING.

Job description

As Area Lead you will oversee lead and contribute to risk-based model validations and holistic model risk management for your domain ensuring timely high-quality delivery in line with regulations and internal policies. You will develop and implement innovative validation frameworks automate periodic validations and optimize resources within your global team.

You will lead coach and develop a diverse team of model validators and chapter leads

fostering a high-performance culture and ensuring fungibility across the Area. You will build and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships act as a business partner while remaining independent and contribute to the development and execution of the Areas strategy and annual business plan including continuous improvements and non-validation activities.

Specific Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Deliver timely risk-based model validations and holistic model risk management activities presenting reports analyses and findings to committees and stakeholders.

  • Develop and implement future-proof innovative risk-based validation frameworks and automation for models in scope ensuring consistency and compliance.

  • Recruit lead manage and develop a global team of fungible model validators and chapter leads optimising area (/tribe) resources and fostering cross-chapter collaboration.

  • Contribute to the MV Financial Risk strategy develop the Areas strategy and annual business plan translating it into actionable roadmaps and leading strategic change

  • initiatives.

  • Build and maintain constructive stakeholder relationships and partnerships facilitating effective communication and alignment with internal and external parties including regulators and auditors.

  • Operate as a business partner to stakeholders influencing first line stakeholders and developing partnerships while maintaining independence.

Specific Knowledge and Experience

  • University masters degree or PhD with a strong quantitative focus (e.g. Econometrics Mathematics Physics Statistics).

  • Extensive experience (15 years) in financial risk modelling model validation and/or model risk management within banking or trading domains (1st & 2nd line of defence).

  • Proven track record in managing leading and developing highly quantitative teams (manager of managers) including product managers and functional reports.

  • Wide experience in strategy formation embedding ongoing regulations and policies and managing diverse senior stakeholders.

  • Deep technical and regulatory expertise with the ability to present complex topics to less technical audiences and senior management.

  • Strong people development leadership and continuous improvement mindset.

  • Strategic vision and execution skills with experience in driving change and embedding improvements across teams.

Reporting Line and Classification

Area Lead Trading Book Risks reports hierarchically to Head of Model Validation Financial Risk located in Amsterdam. You will be part of the leadership team of the MV FR tribe contributing to strategy and driving its execution.
