ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager Affordable Housing is responsible for providing project management activities including the planning and development approval process for new affordable rental housing projects in York Region; applying expert knowledge of land use planning real estate development and housing legislation; providing insight and analysis on project direction management and implementation; communicating project milestones and updates; analyzing policy implications construction matters and budget management and monitoring the progress of new affordable housing development.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING

  • Reviews and analyzes new affordable housing development proposals for conformity with governing policy and legislation.
  • Coordinates consultants/design-builders on development applications.
  • Draft documents coordinate circulation and collaboration with staff for the issuance of relevant procurement/tender instruments (ex. RFP RFQ RFPQ etc.)
  • Oversees the rezoning application to a municipality to permit new development of an affordable housing building.
  • Maintains working knowledge and keeps up to date on policies governing land use planning and housing to help inform project directions.
  • Keeps up to date on general construction principles and costs to help inform project budgets and project feasibility.
  • Monitors analyses and summarizes the implications of programs legislation initiatives and policies developed by other levels of government and community-based organizations as it relates to the provision of affordable housing development services in the Region.
  • Provides technical support to strategic planning initiatives as directed.
  • Monitors project milestones and timelines and assessment of budget impacts.
  • Monitors the Regional allocation of capital funds for new affordable housing projects.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

  • Successful completion of a University Degree in urban planning or related discipline.
  • Membership or able to successfully obtain membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners (C.I.P. or Professional Equivalent within six months of hire.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in the planning field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of real estate development
