Who Were Looking For:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelors degree in physical education kinesiology sports management education or a related field.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in athletics physical education or school-based athletic leadership.
  3. Demonstrated experience supervising staff and managing programs or initiatives.
  4. Knowledge ofof K8 athletic programming physical education standards and student safety practices.

Preferred Attributes:

  1. Masters degree in education educational leadership sports management or a related field.
  2. Experience overseeing facilities use rentals or community partnerships.
  3. Experience working with municipal agencies or community-based organizations.
  4. Administrative certification or prior school and/or district-level leadership experience.

About the Role:

Why the role exists:

The Head of Athletics and Community Services provides districtwide leadership for K8 athletics and physical education programs while overseeing athletic facilities use rentals and strategic partnerships with city and community organizations. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality inclusive and developmentally appropriate athletic and physical education experiences for students while also maximizing the effective use of district athletic facilities through coordinated scheduling partnerships and revenue-generating opportunities.

The Head of Athletics and Community Services serves as the primary liaison between the district municipal partners and community sports organizations ensuring alignment with district priorities student safety standards and board-approved use of facilities.

Responsibilities & Deliverables:

Athletics & Physical Education Leadership

  • Provide districtwide leadership for K8 athletics and physical education programs ensuring alignment with state standards district curriculum expectations and student wellness goals.
  • Supervise support and evaluate physical education teachers athletic coaches and site-based athletic coordinators as applicable.
  • Establish and monitor expectations for instructional quality student engagement safety and equitable access to athletics and physical education.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to ensure athletic programs are developmentally appropriate inclusive and responsive to student needs.
  • Support professional learning for PE teachers and coaches focused on instructional practice safety and student development.
  • Model and support effective physical education instructional strategies through site visits coaching and demonstration lessons as appropriate.

Athletics Program Oversight

  • Oversee the planning implementation and evaluation of district athletic programs leagues and competitions.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies risk management protocols student eligibility requirements and safety guidelines.
  • Coordinate schedules staffing transportation needs and equipment procurement related to athletic programming.
  • Coordinate athletic event logistics including scheduling officials scorekeepers supervisors and support personnel for athletic events.
  • Monitor participation data and program outcomes to inform continuous improvement.

Facilities Rentals & Use

  • Oversee the use scheduling and rental of district athletic facilities including gyms fields courts and related spaces.
  • Ensure facilities use aligns with district priorities board policies and operational capacity.
  • Coordinate with Operations Maintenance and Risk Management to ensure facilities are safe well-maintained and appropriately staffed during use.
  • Monitor rental agreements usage data and revenue streams related to athletic facilities.

City & Community Sports Partnerships

  • Serve as the districts primary point of contact for city recreation departments youth sports organizations and community partners utilizing district athletic facilities.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships that expand student access to athletic opportunities while protecting district interests.
  • Negotiate and manage partnership agreements and memoranda of understanding in collaboration with district leadership.
  • Align partnerships with district goals related to student wellness community engagement and responsible resource use.

Strategic Planning & Budget Management

  • Contribute to district planning related to athletics physical education and student wellness initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and managing budgets related to athletics PE programs equipment and facilities use.
  • Monitor expenditures and revenues to ensure fiscal responsibility and sustainability.
  • Ensure continuity and coherence of physical education programming across schools through aligned practices expectations and shared professional learning.
  • Provide data reports and recommendations to district leadership as needed.

Compliance Safety & Risk Management

  • Ensure all athletic and physical education programs comply with district policies state requirements and safety regulations.
  • Support the development and implementation of emergency procedures supervision plans and injury response protocols.
  • Collaborate with site leaders to address concerns related to student behavior supervision and safety during athletic activities.
