Position Summary:
Value Chain Optimization is seeking a motivated employee with interest in commodities scheduling and optimization of the refinery while working closely with business partners to identify and advance optimization opportunities. This position works across organizations including but not limited to MPLX Commercial Scheduling Planning & Optimization and Refinery Products Control. The ideal candidate should be a strong communicator with interest in learning refinery economics and MPCs Value Chain Optimization side of the business.
VCO views this as a growth opportunity for an employee seeking to gain knowledge in refinery logistics & economics as well as the commercial side of the business. This position is located in Canton OH and will report directly to Economics & Planning Manager Canton Refinery.
Key Responsibilities:
Directs and optimizes refinery crude scheduling including inventory management tank utilization and crude slate targets in alignment with regional strategy and refinery constraints.
Owns planning and coordination of asphalt movements including production planning inventory positioning and outbound disposition partnering with the Asphalt Marketing group to meet quality logistics and market commitments.
Coordinates the commercial aspects of refinery operations including feedstock selection product placement supply chain optimization and market analysis.
Demonstrates a fundamental understanding of refinery operations economics and market dynamics. Develops and communicates strategies that capture missed opportunities and closes production optimization gaps.
Assists in collaboration meetings with the value chain to discuss both local and regional economic drivers.
Develops optimized and executable production plans for a single refinery using linear programming simulation models. Modifies production plans as needed to adjust to demand/margin changes. Identifies constraints associated with refinery modeling uses provided input to develop refinery plans.
Conducts detailed analysis of buy-or-make options considering factors such as cost quality supply chain implications and market dynamics. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to gather relevant data and insights.
Assists in developing decision-making frameworks and presenting findings to stakeholders.
Analyzes historical refinery data to identify trends patterns and areas for improvement. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to validate data accuracy and completeness. Assists in developing backcast models and scenarios to evaluate past performance and identify optimization opportunities.
Demonstrates understanding of refinery operations and commercial aspects of projects. Able to analyze data identify issues and propose solutions with guidance. Collaborates with team members to execute project support tasks effectively.
Develops proficiency with APS and refinery scheduling processes understanding local deliverables and coordinating planning outputs with downstream execution teams.
Education and Experience:
Planning & Optimization Engineer II
Bachelors degree in Engineering required. Chemical Engineering preferred.
Two (2) years relevant experience. Technical Services or Economics & Planning experience preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
Planning & Optimization Engineer III
Bachelors degree in Engineering required. Chemical Engineering preferred.
Four (4) years relevant experience. Technical Services or Economics & Planning experience preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
