Station Scientist Manager

The Station Science Manager (SSM) is a senior site leadership position responsible for the unified ownership governance and performance of the stations science-based nuclear safety programs including Radiation Protection and Chemistry for the Kemmerer Power Station (KPS)

This role is the single-point accountable owner for these programs ensuring compliance with federal regulations NRC requirements INPO guidelines ANSI/ANS standards and TerraPower policies. The SSM governs standards policies resources and performance necessary to protect workers the public the environment and plant systems.

The Station Science Manager serves as the senior site authority for radiological and chemistry risk management and is accountable to site leadership and regulators for program health regulatory compliance and long-term strategic capability in these disciplines.

Responsibilities

Program Ownership and Governance

Owns and governs the stations Radiation Protection and Chemistry programs including standards policies procedures resource allocation staffing models and regulatory compliance.

Establishes and enforces station-wide radiological and chemistry control standards to protect workers the public the environment and plant systems.

Serves as the senior site authority for ALARA personnel dosimetry environmental radiological monitoring contamination control chemistry management and radiological/radioactive waste management.

Executive Decision-Making and Authority

Has final approval authority for program standards major policies and procedures related to Radiation Protection and Chemistry.

Has authority to stop or restrict work on the basis of radiological or chemistry safety concerns.

Governs staffing models qualification requirements and training standards for station science organizations.

Integration and Strategic Leadership

Ensures full integration of station science requirements into operations maintenance engineering work planning and construction/startup activities.

Provides executive-level technical and programmatic input to site leadership on radiological and chemistry risk plant conditions and operational decisions.

Leads and coordinates responses to radiological or chemistry events and ensures integration with emergency preparedness and site response organizations.

Operational and Resource Management

Oversees procurement lifecycle management calibration and maintenance of radiation protection and chemistry instrumentation and laboratory capabilities.

Develop and manages budgets and long-range resource plans for station science programs including personnel equipment laboratories and facilities.

Owns performance monitoring self-assessment and corrective action programs for station science functions.

Regulatory Compliance and Stakeholder Engagement

Serves as the primary site interface with regulatory agencies and oversight organizations on matters related to Radiation Protection and Chemistry.

Leads and supports audits inspections readiness reviews and management assessments affecting station science programs

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in engineering chemistry health physics physical science or a related technical field.

Minimum 3 years experience as a Radiation Protection Technician

Minimum 3 years of experience governing Radiation Protection and/or Chemistry programs.

Minimum 10 years of experience in nuclear or similarly regulated technical environments.

Minimum 5 years of experience in management or senior technical leadership roles in which at least 1 month of supervision was at a nuclear utility during a refueling outage and at least 2 months were at a nuclear while above 20% power.

Preferred:

Advanced degree in a relevant technical discipline.

Experience governing Radiation Protection and/or Chemistry programs.

Held the Radiation Protection Manager role at a utility

Demonstrated track record of programmatic performance improvement and corrective action leadership.

Experience with new plant startups first-of-a-kind or major facility commissioning environments.

Certification: NRRPT or equivalent certification highly desirable.

Job Functions and Working Conditions

Primarily onsite role with potential extended hours during critical operational startup or emergent conditions.

Work may involve radiological or industrial environments under controlled conditions.

Minimal travel (up to 5% domestic travel).

As part of TerraPowers compliance with U.S. export control laws applicants will be required to disclose citizenship or residency status. TerraPower may be unable to consider candidates from certain countries if export authorization cannot be obtained in a timely manner.

Salary Range Level 14: $182024 $273035

*We typically place offers in the lower to middle portion of the range to maintain internal equity and allow room for growth. Any salary offered within the posted salary band is based on market data and commensurate with the selected individuals qualifications experience. This range is specific to Washington State.
