Job Description:

The Administrative Intern in the Department of Surgery will play a vital role in supporting the departments clinical operational and strategic initiatives. This position is designed for individuals seeking exposure to healthcare management within a leading academic medical environment. The intern will gain hands-on experience across financial and data management operations and quality improvement marketing and communications and leadership development.

The role includes analyzing surgical case volume trends and revenue cycle performance assisting with financial and productivity reporting and contributing to operational efficiency and process improvement efforts. The intern will support initiatives related to operating room utilization departmental growth and quality addition they will participate in strategic growth initiatives with department leadership.

Through structured mentorship and professional development opportunities the intern will engage with department leaders participate in leadership meetings and build practical skills in project management communication and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with data collection entry and maintenance for departmental projects reports and performance metrics.
  • Assist with financial reporting variance analysis and faculty productivity tracking.
  • Contribute to process improvement and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Uphold confidentiality and data integrity in accordance with health system compliance standards.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate and confidential records in accordance with health system policies.

Learning Objectives

  • Gain exposure to the management of an academic surgical department.
  • Develop practical experience in financial analysis operations management and project leadership.
  • Learn how clinical academic and business priorities align within a health system.

Duration and Schedule

  • Recruitment to begin after approval of position. The minimum commitment for the internship is 3 months however if intern is progressing successfully we invite them to stay on longer.

Expected Salary:

Fixed hourly rate TBD but proposed $16/hr.

Required Qualifications:
  • Current Master of Health Administration Candidate
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Analytical thinker with comprehension of data analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).
  • High degree of professionalism discretion and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interest in healthcare administration finance and hospital operations.
