The Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (IME) part of the Faculty of Engineering at the
University of Southern Denmark offers a 10-hour/week part-time position (15.03.2026 30.06.2026)
as a Student Helper for its Cyber-Physical Lab.


The Institute is located in the inspiring building of Alsion which houses the Science Park and the South
Jutland Symphony Orchestra creating close bonds to both the industrial and cultural environment of
Sønderborg. We are seeking a skilled student to support both research and teaching activities in this
dynamic setting.


The Position
We are looking for a student to support the operations of the Cyber-Physical Lab a facility where
physical experiments are directly interfaced with and controlled by computer systems.
The position requires a student who can bridge the gap between software control and physical hardware.
You will be responsible for ensuring the operational stability of these connected experiments
assisting as a Teaching Assistant and handling the maintenance of control systems. Additionally as
the laboratory evolves assistance with logistics and the re-commissioning of experimental setups will
be required.


Assignments
The primary tasks of the Student Helper will include:
Teaching Support: Acting as a Teaching Assistant (TA) for the Experimental Course helping
students troubleshoot setups.
Lab Operations: Maintaining the Cyber-Physical systems ensuring communication between
computers and physical plants remains stable.
Fault Finding: Diagnosing and debugging faults in sensors actuators and control loops.
Logistics & Maintenance: Assisting with the relocation of equipment and contacting suppliers
for spare parts.


Qualifications
The ideal candidate is a student at SDU with a strong background in Mechatronics Electrical or
Control Engineering. We are looking for a candidate who possesses:
Strong understanding of Control Theory and its practical application.
Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink required for interfacing with hardware.
Experience with the specific experimental setups currently used in the Cyber-Physical
Lab (highly preferred).
Ability to diagnose faults in integrated systems (debugging signal connections sensors and
actuators).
Strong communication skills for interacting with suppliers and guiding students.

Please note the selected candidate as Student Assistant or Academic Supervisor must be enrolled as student at SDU.

Employment shall take place in accordance with the framework agreement between the Ministry of Finance and SUL (National Union for Student Teachers in Government Service).
