VAP Cultural Anthropology (Asian Anthropology)

The Department of Anthropology at Skidmore College invites applications for a two-year full-time non-tenure track visiting assistant professor position in cultural anthropology of Asia for AY26-28 beginning Fall 2026.

Responsibilities and Qualifications:
We seek a broadly trained cultural anthropologist with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching. The position requires teaching 5 courses per year (18 credits) including Introduction to Cultural Anthropology (both semesters) a mid-level Asian Studies course and upper-level seminars. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching and a strong commitment to undergraduate education at a liberal arts college. PhD in Anthropology required at time of appointment.

  • Syllabi for two courses (1) (AN101); and (2) a mid-level Asian Studies-focused Anthropology course that will have no pre-reqs for students with limited background in both disciplinesthe pre-reqs being AN-101 Intro to Cultural Anthropology and AS-101 Intro to Asian Studies. up-to-date curriculum vitae or resume; and
  • Contact information for two references.

    After an initial review of applications a short list of candidates will be asked to submit additional materials including academic transcripts and course evaluations and letters of references will be requested. Zoom interviews including a teaching demonstration will be scheduled with selected candidates.
