Thurston County Central Services is recruiting for a Facilities Technician I to join our dynamic energetic and innovative Facilities Maintenance team. The successful candidate will perform a wide variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance of county buildings and equipment. Areas of responsibility may include electrical mechanical plumbing HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) generators carpentry building component systems locksmithing and other related work in the maintenance and repair of commercial buildings.

Essential functions may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing carpentry work for remodeling and installation of fixtures. Reviewing and utilizing blueprints sketches and specifications.
  • Working with electrical circuitry to repair troubleshoot and installand 480-volt circuits.
  • Performing routine battery testing and replacement for building automation computers fire alarm panels UPS systems and generators.
  • Identifying facilities/equipment problems and recommending solutions.
  • Performing routine and preventive maintenance on building systems (HVAC lighting emergency systems security alarms electrical and electronic locking devices).
  • Maintaining detailed logs; entering data into maintenance management information system.
  • Assisting contractors and vendors as assigned; may oversee the work of volunteers inmates or other workers.
  • Selecting and purchasing supplies recommending tools and equipment and maintaining proper inventory control and accurate records.
  • May perform landscaping duties and repairs to irrigation systems.

Essential Personnel:This position is considered to be an essential worker and may be required to work during non-business hours or closures in order to meet operational requirements and needs.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Hours of Operation: This position will work 4-10 hour days either Monday Thursday or Tuesday through Friday.
  • Work Environment: Work is performed in a variety of locations including high-security areas such as detention facilities on rooftops and in confined spaces. Physical effort is required due to heavy lifting potentially up to 75 pounds as well as bending stooping crouching reaching above shoulders climbing ladders and working from lifts. Long periods of standing may be necessary and work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather and position could be exposed to noisy machinery and alarms dust liquid epoxy chemicals smoke noxious odors fumes and solvents.
  • Travel Requirements: This position requires driving to county properties and various vendor locations.
  • Customer Interactions:Daily interactions with Thurston County staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma/ of vocational training program(s) in a building maintenance field is preferred.
  • Two years of experience performing a wide variety of tasks in building maintenance operations.
  • Current Washington State Drivers License or have requested and obtained an appropriate accommodation.
  • Must pass background security check.

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Proficient in data entry and use of software including email maintenance management information systems and online timekeeping.
  • Strong customer service orientation and the ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
