Critical Care Intensivist (MD/DO)
Position Summary
The Critical Care Intensivist provides comprehensive medical management of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit. This role involves the evaluation diagnosis and treatment of complex life-threatening conditions coordination of multidisciplinary care and leadership of ICU clinical teams to ensure high-quality patient-centered outcomes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct care for critically ill patients in medical surgical cardiac or mixed intensive care units
- Evaluate and manage acute respiratory failure shock sepsis multi-organ dysfunction and other critical conditions
- Perform and supervise critical care procedures including airway management mechanical ventilation vascular access and hemodynamic monitoring consistent with training and privileges
- Lead daily multidisciplinary rounds and coordinate care with consulting services
- Interpret and integrate diagnostic data including imaging and laboratory results
- Communicate effectively with patients families regarding clinical status prognosis and goals of care
- Participate in rapid response and code teams as required
- Provide nighttime weekend and on-call coverage per service needs
- Supervise and educate residents fellows advanced practice providers and nursing staff as applicable
- Maintain accurate timely clinical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement patient safety and ICU performance initiatives
- Comply with all regulatory accreditation and professional standards
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
- Completion of an accredited residency program (e.g. Internal Medicine Anesthesiology Surgery Emergency Medicine or Pulmonary)
- Completion of an accredited Critical Care Medicine fellowship
- Board-eligible or board-certified in Critical Care Medicine
- Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
- DEA registration or eligibility
- ACLS certification

- Intensive care units within hospital settings
- Shift-based scheduling including nights weekends and holidays depending on program structure
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and move throughout ICU environments for extended periods
- Manual dexterity for bedside procedures
- Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient monitoring and emergency response
