Position Overview:

Brunswicks BI-DesignLab (BIDL) a member of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Research Park is seeking a Data Science intern.

We areseekinga motivated and detail-orientedData Science intern withastrong desireto extract high quality insights from data. The intern will work closely withthe digital products teamfromMercury Marine a division ofBrunswickto extract businessinsights andstrategiesfrom data. This data will be used in product planning market analysis business case development product line management and new product development activities.

Essential Functions:

Due to the nature of the Lab it is difficult to capture all the responsibilities and projects accurately. The following list is not exhaustive but alludes to the kinds of workflow that will be expected.

• Collect clean and process data from connected vessels IoT devices and cloud platforms.

• Explore telemetry usage and sensor datasets toidentifypatterns trends and insights that improve user experience and product performance.

• Build analytical models or lightweightmachine learningprototypes that support predictive insights diagnostics or product recommendations.

• Partner with digital products and engineering teams to translate problem statements into concrete analytical tasks.

• Assist with developing or refining model pipelines ensuring data quality and integrity throughout.

• Create visualizations dashboards or reporting flows that communicate insights clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

• Document data sources modeling assumptions and analytical approaches.

• Support ongoing connectivity initiatives by analyzing system interactions device behavior and user telemetry as referenced in connectivity strategy materials

Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however others can be developed along the way.

Required Qualifications:

• To be considered for the internship candidates must have permanent US Work authorization.We are unable to sponsor temporary work visas or accept CPT/OPT authorization for this role.

• Current enrollment in a BS in a field related to Data Science Computer Science Statistics Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

• Demonstratable experience with Python for data analysis (pandas NumPyscikitlearn).

• Familiarity with exploratory data analysis statistical methods and data visualization.

• Ability to work with unstructured or imperfectrealworlddatasets.

• Strong communicationskillsable to translate analytical findings into actionable insights.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud analytics environments (Azure AWS or GCP).

• Exposure to IoT or connectivity data flows.

• Knowledge ofmachinelearningmodel development orMLOpstools.

• Experience with dashboards (Power BI Tableau) or visualization libraries.

• Interest in connected products digital ecosystems or recreational technology markets

Travel Requirements:

Somewhat frequenttravel to Wisconsin will berequiredduring the summer.

• Several days to a full week at the start of the summer

• Multiple times during theremainderof the summer

• At least threedaystrips during June and July

• Up to but not more thanone day tripper weekof the summer

Should we choose to extend the internship into the fall there will be no requirements fortravelbut there will be weekly hour-long check-in meetings with the digital products team. There may beinfrequentasksto travel during the semesterlikely lessthan once a month.

Working Conditions:

Learning Opportunities: Our internships are designed to provide hands-on experience in a professional setting. You will work alongside experienced professionals and get a chance to apply your academic knowledge to real-world tasks.

Project Work: The work environment is supportive collaborative and conducive to learning. Interns typically work on specific projects or tasks that contribute to the organizations goals. This may range from supporting larger projects to handling smaller individual assignments.

Hours: During summer interns are expected to work 40 hours in person at the lab each must work at least 8 hours in person at the lab each week during the fall and spring terms. You may work up to 20 hours maximum.

Feedback and Performance Reviews: As an intern you will receive feedback and performance reviews throughout your assignment. We value the importance for interns to understand their progress and areas for improvement.

Responsibility: Interns at BI Design Lab are expected to manage their own schedules set goals and seek feedback for their professional development.

The anticipated pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00 per hour. The actual hourly rate offered will depend on multiple factors including year in school degree job-related knowledge/skills relevant experience and business needs.
