The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Marys River in northeast Florida surrounded by 22000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property. Founded in 1982 White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care develop holistic animal management techniques and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large naturalistic habitats.

Job Summary:
The BMP (Best Management Practices) Specialist plays a critical role in supporting the overall health aesthetics and environmental compliance of the golf course grounds. This position is responsible for the application of fertilizers herbicides pesticides and fungicides while ensuring all tasks align with state regulations and environmental safety standards. The role also serves as a BMP compliance leader supporting sustainable turf management practices maintaining safety records and ensuring daily operations meet internal and external environmental protocols.
Essential Duties:
o Applies fertilizer pesticides herbicides fungicides and other chemicals as needed.
o Analyzes environmental and turf conditions to determine correct product selection application method and timing.
o Calibrates and operates sprayers spreaders and other turf application equipment with precision.
o Monitors weather and site conditions to avoid off-target movement or ineffective applications.
o Maintains detailed records of all chemical applications to ensure compliance with local state and federal regulations.
o Performs mowing edging top-dressing sod installation and other turf maintenance duties as needed.
o Assists in the landscape maintenance of trees shrubs and ornamental areas.
o Operates tractors utility vehicles and equipment such as front-end loaders and grooming implements.
o Oversees proper storage labeling and disposal of chemicals in accordance with BMP and OSHA guidelines.
o Acts as Assistant Safety Inspector for the Golf Club supporting safety audits and training.
o Serves as acting crew leader in the absence of management staff when necessary.
o Follows all company safety standards acts as a steward of conservation upholds a clean and professional work area and supports a respectful team-oriented work culture.
o Maintains accurate measurements and calibration of application equipment.
o Performs recordkeeping and reporting for chemical usage and safety inspections.
o Serves as knowledgeable resource in chemical safety application timing calibration and material handling.
o Maintains current knowledge of greens-keeping practices and principles.
o Ensures all machines are properly cleaned lubricated fueled and stored following manufacture guidelines.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:
Bachelors or Associates Degree in Turfgrass Management or Related Field preferred.
Will Consider a Turfgrass Management Certificate and/or work-related experience.
Minimum of five years experience in golf course or turfgrass maintenance.
Experience with proper handling and use of fertilizers herbicides pesticides and related turf management chemicals.
Valid Florida Restricted Pesticide License (or obtain within 90 days).
Valid BMP certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of Florida BMPs for golf course maintenance and environmental stewardship.
Knowledge of Turfgrass species and greens-keeping principles.
Knowledgeable in safe use and maintenance of mowing spraying and heavy equipment.
Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations related to chemical handling and job site practices.
Ability to operate equipment and perform light mechanical troubleshooting on spray equipment only.
Ability to interpret chemical labels and safety data sheets (SDS).
Proficient in Microsoft Office and turf maintenance platforms.
Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude for calibration diagnostic and troubleshooting.
Ability to make independent decisions on-site based on weather and turf conditions.
Ability to communicate clearly with supervisors coworkers and vendors.
Strong commitment to workplace safety and environmental care.
Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to make decisions regarding chemical spraying conditions (i.e. wind speed rain events that move in etc.) and when to cease the application.
Physical Requirements Hazards and Special Working Conditions:
Must have valid Florida or Georgia drivers license.
Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and operate heavy machinery.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor under various weather conditions.
Work is performed outdoors with frequent exposure to heat humidity rain and other elements.
Must be able to walk long distances stoop kneel bend and stand for extended periods.
Requires visual acuity for equipment operation and chemical inspection.
Must be able to climb ladders lift 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks involving hands and arms. Remove statement above.
May involve occasional work around moving equipment noise and chemical fumes (with PPE provided).
