DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Sound Transit Architecture and Art Group collaboratively oversees the design development and construction of public transit stations and maintenance facilities. Working with consulting landscape architects architects and engineering groups the Architecture Group coordinates agency needs into building and landscape designs. The grouptouches allfacetsof Sound Transits facilities throughout the Puget Sound region Link Sounder ST Express and Tacoma Link. TheLandscape Architecture Intern will have an opportunity to be a part of the team thatfocuses onpassenger experiencethrough station and station area design.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional position-specific duties.
JOB DUTIES:
- Work with the Principal Landscape Architect with a focus on information and data collection and confirmation as well as learning about the overall process of landscape design and construction within Sound Transit.
- The internship will involve field work such as construction site visits as well as office work.
- The internship will entailresearching designs for existing and new landscape elements to extract information and data which will inform future standards andassistin operational needs.
POTENTIAL PROJECTS:
- Assist with the review of consultant work and conformance to ST Standards.
- Collaborate on a group project for post-occupancy evaluation of selected transit facilities to inform future agency work.
- Assistwith field work over the Projects duration.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing enrolled in an accredited associate bachelors or graduate degree program in Landscape Architecture Urban Design Planning related field or relevant two-year certificate.
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
- Demonstrated understanding and/or experience with landscape elements and design features.
- Preferred knowledge of reading construction drawings although this can be taught on the job as well.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to work autonomouslyandwithin a team environment.
Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail. - Demonstrated ability to solve problems and work collaboratively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to draft succinct business correspondence.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.
- Working knowledge of database principles and software.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment.
- Subject to standing walking bending reaching stooping and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery when visiting job sites during construction and when working in the field.
