TITLE: Principal

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 1.0 FTE; 12-Month position

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Administrative

GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:

To assist the Superintendent effectively in the task of providing leadership in developing achieving and maintaining the best possible academic programs facilities and services for student growth.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Work well with students who struggle academically.
  • Incorporate behavior modification in an effective manner.
  • Assist the site Principal and work collaboratively with the administrative team to supervise teachers and evaluate class performance.
  • Use multiple sources of data to assess student progress and school improvement.
  • Discipline students effectively and communicate discipline policy with parents.
  • Successfully work with parents staff counselors and administration.
  • Stay current on the states policies procedures and legislation.
  • Attend School Board Cabinet and Principals meetings.

OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:

Low risk - Work is routinely performed in indoor environments including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. May require standing in inclement weather including summer heat.

The applicant for this position is required to:

    • Stooping crouching reaching standing walking fingering grasping feeling talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions.
    • Lift on a regular basis 30-50 pounds
    • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Hearing ability to monitor presence and activity of students and respond to communication with students and adults is required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications to perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge skills and/or abilities required to be successful:

  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Principal Certificate.
  • Masters degree in administration or equivalent.
  • Three years experience in site administration.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of secondary school curriculum special education and Arizona State Education Laws.
  • Experience in staff selection assignment orientation and performance evaluation in accordance with state law and district policy.
  • Competent decision maker with excellent leadership skills.
  • Ability to work with staff teachers and students at various educational levels.
  • Proficient communicator with excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with all levels of district staff and with a diverse community.
  • Ability to work independently.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for protecting the health and welfare of students.
  • Makes recommendations for appropriate revisions of policies and rules affecting the students life in the school.
  • Resolves all discipline problems in a fair and just manner and maintains records of any disciplinary action taken.
  • Supervises the registration classification scheduling and testing of students.
  • Assists in the interpretation of school and district programs policies and procedures to students parents staff and community.
  • Works with community and government agencies on problems relating to drug abuse and truancy from school.
  • Assists in developing and administering practices dealing with campus control and security.
  • Assists with campus supervision.
  • Confers with parents teachers counselors support service personnel and students on matters of discipline and welfare.
  • Has general supervisory responsibility for student activities athletic events programs of student orientation and similar activities.
  • Responsible for attracting retaining and evaluating qualified staff.
  • Assists in assigning faculty to supervision of extracurricular activities.
  • Supervises development maintenance and distribution of student calendars handbooks schedules bulletins and the like.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of secondary school education and administration.
  • Excellent organizational communication and interpersonal skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to analyze data in various applications including excel.
  • Modern office technology.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:

The evaluation is done by the Superintendent.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Principal reports directly to the Superintendent.
