Summer Opportunity: Mental Health Worker Departments: Residential Setting Community-Based Apartment Programs
About RTI Residential Transitions Inc. (RTI) helps individuals improve their quality of life by building knowledge skills and independence while always treating people with dignity and respect. We serve individuals across Minnesota who are living with mental illness substance use challenges traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other disabilities. Our services support people in 24-hour residential homes apartment-based programs and independent community settings. Position Overview RTI is hiring Summer Mental Health Workers to provide direct support and independent living skills training across three service areas: - Community Residential Programs
- Community-Based Services (Individualized Home Support IHS)
- Apartment Based Supportive Services
Placement will depend on program needs and candidate availability.
This is a great opportunity for students or individuals pursuing careers in psychology social work nursing human services or related fields who want meaningful hands-on experience in mental health services. We also welcome anyone who is passionate about making a meaningful impact and supporting individuals living with mental illness including Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) who want to help others build independence and stability. What Youll Do
As a Mental Health Worker you will provide person-centered 1:1 support to help individuals build independence and stability. Core responsibilities include:
- Supporting independent living skills development
- Assisting with mental health management and practicing coping skills
- Teaching community integration skills such as:
- Medication self-management
- Budgeting and financial skills
- Interpersonal communication
- Using public transportation
- Maintaining a clean and safe home
- Accessing community resources
- Encouraging positive social interaction and appropriate behavior
- Participating in recreational and community activities
- Promoting healthy living habits
- Completing required documentation accurately and timely
Program-Specific Highlights
Community Residential Programs: Work in 24-hour staffed homes supporting individuals with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) and/or TBI. Shifts may include evenings overnights or weekends. Compensation:$18-$23/hour depending on the site and client Community-Based Services (IHS): Provide support in clients homes and comPay Range:munity settings. Caseload-based scheduling allows for flexibility. Compensation: $19 Apartment Based Supportive Services: Support individuals living in apartment-style settings who benefit from structured yet independent environments. Compensation: $19 Qualifications - Currently enrolled in or pursuing a degree. (psychology social work nursing human services or a related field preferred)
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation required for community-based roles
- Experience in mental health human services or direct support preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Must pass Minnesota DHS background study
Schedule - Full-time and part-time summer positions available
- Flexible scheduling based on program needs
- Evening and weekend availability may be required depending on placement
