A Machine Operator in a steel manufacturing company
sets up operates and maintains industrial machinery (e.g. shears presses CNC machines) to cut bend or shape steel products. They ensure high-quality production perform troubleshooting and adhere to strict safety protocols including wearing PPE to meet production goals efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Operation & Setup:Load secure and align raw materials; adjust calibrate and operate steel processing equipment.
- Production & Quality Control:Monitor machine performance to produce parts according to blueprints technical drawings or job orders.
- Inspection:Measure completed parts using precision tools to ensure they meet quality dimension and specification standards.
- Maintenance & Safety:Perform routine maintenance (oiling Cleaning cleaning) and minor troubleshooting. Adhere to all OSHA and company safety standards including wearing PPE (steel-toe boots safety glasses earplugs).
- Documentation:Maintain production records document technical parameters and report any defects or material shortages.
- Material Handling:Move lift and position heavy materials and equipment using cranes or hoists.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education:High school diploma or GED is generally required.
- Experience:Previous experience in a manufacturing or metalworking environment is often preferred.
- Technical Skills:Ability to read blueprints schematics and technical documents. Familiarity with CNC controls is often needed.
- Physical Strength:Ability to stand for long periods lift heavy materials and work in varied temperatures/environments (hot/cold).
- Attention to Detail:High level of focus to prevent defects and ensure safety.
Typical Working Environment
- Factories steel mills or fabrication plants.
- Shifts may include morning evening or weekends to ensure 24/7 production.
- Exposure to noise welding gases and fumes.
