The Role

We are currently recruiting an experienced Shop Foreman to join our growing team at our fabrication shop in Fort Saskatchewan AB. The ideal candidate is a Journeyman Welder or Pipefitter that enjoys rolling up their sleeves and working on the tools with his/her team. They are hard working and organized and have experience mentoring apprentices.

Key Duties/Responsibilities

  • Assigns schedules and supervises the work of shop tradespeople on pressure welding structural welding and hydro-testing work.
  • Supervise the work of shop employees by ensuring quality standards safety training and overseeing productivity ensuring OCL & client specifications and standards are met or exceeded.
  • Lead daily safety toolbox talks and engage tradespeople on their daily tasks ensuring safety is at the forefront.
  • Communicating job expectations deliverables & procedures to shop tradespeople.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely (often daily) collection communication and reporting of shop data by shop personnel as required by the leadership team.
  • Manage team performance and expectations providing training guidance and performance management as required.
  • Work with team to establish and elevate work habits job skills housekeeping and safety
  • Manages schedules and product flows to ensure highly productive cost-effective quality-oriented manufacturing operations.
  • Passionate about reducing repair rates and striving for zero re-work.
  • Recruitment and selection of new tradespeople.
  • Complete daily timekeeping and administrative duties such as maintenance forms time cards welder/fitter logs and equipment logs.
  • Obtain quotes and purchase materials supplies equipment and consumables. Establish and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Assist with takeoffs & estimates when required
  • Manage shop tool and yard ensuring it is tidy and organized and well stocked.
  • Keyholder. Open and close shop.

Educational/Work Experience Requirements

  • Technical welding knowledge and expertise
  • Journeyman Pipefitter or B-Pressure Welder with valid qualifications for GMAW-modified short circuit (RMD) FCAW GTAW SMAW & CWB certificates
  • Extensive experience fabricating & welding both carbon and stainless steel
  • Hydro-static testing experience required
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role
  • WHMIS 2015
  • First Aid certification is an asset
  • Valid class 5 drivers license and reliable transportation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook preferred
  • Flexible hardworking and organized
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
