Oglethorpe University seeks an Assistant Director of Accessibility Services to provide leadership and oversight for disability-related accommodations and services ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. The Assistant Director manages and implements the process of requesting reviewing determining and communicating about reasonable accommodations including resolution of problems or conflicts related to accommodations and services. The Assistant Director plays a critical role in supporting students collaborating across departments and promoting an inclusive educational environment. This position reports to the Director of Student Success.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to university retention and academic success by cultivating and maintaining partnerships with students faculty staff and administration to advance accessibility services and initiatives.
Facilitate access to courses programs services activities and facilities for students with disabilities; lead efforts to provide disability-related guidance advocacy and comprehensive support.
Oversee and manage each stage of the accommodation application process ensuring thorough review of student eligibility and determination of reasonable accommodations through an individualized interactive process.
Maintain the confidentiality of records and required documentation while developing and implementing best practices to educate campus stakeholders about confidentiality as it relates to accommodations.
Collaborate with faculty and other administrative areas including Student Success advisors Residential Life Dining and Academic Affairs to ensure the effective implementation of accommodations and services.
Manage the processes for note-taking and testing for students approved to receive accommodations; coordinate and oversee services inclusive of interpreters readers and assistive technology as necessary.
Maintain and manage an inventory of assistive technology adaptive equipment and auxiliary aids (if applicable).
Educate campus constituencies and develop presentations to advance understanding of disability support in compliance with ADA and Section 504 regulations.
Provide guidance and oversight for housing- and dining-related accommodations processes ensuring alignment with institutional policies.
Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies regulations and best practices and/or systems related to accessibility.
Complete assessments and reporting related to program outcomes and efficacy; conduct routine audits and implement process improvements.
Participate in institutional planning processes divisional meetings and represent the Center for Student Success at cross-functional gatherings.
Participate in major Student Affairs and University events including Orientation and Commencement.
Perform additional duties as needed to address short-term departmental and/or institutional priorities.
Masters degree in psychology social work sociology education health administration rehabilitation services or related field with a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible experience working with diverse populations including students with disabilities preferred. Also acceptable is a Bachelors degree in psychology social work sociology education health administration rehabilitation services or related field with a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience working with diverse populations including students with disabilities
Strong understanding of industry standards in accessibility services including compliance with ADA HIPAA and FERPA requirements.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills; ability to engage openly honestly and respectfully with diverse campus constituencies and community members.
Commitment to supporting social justice diversity equity and inclusion.
Proficiency with student accommodation software and student information systems; experience implementing and managing such technologies preferred.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Excel for data analysis and reporting.
Knowledge of crisis management strategies and ability to provide timely interventions and referrals.
Work Environment:
Normal use of office equipment sitting at a desk walking or standing occasional lifting (<25 lbs.).
This is a full-time in-person position with the ability to work remotely based on operational needs.
Occasional nights and weekends may be required.
