Job Summary

Job Title: RN Wound & Ostomy Regular Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) Wound & Ostomy functions as the clinical resource for patients and staff regarding ostomy care continence disorders acute and chronic wounds skin breakdown and fistula management. The RN provides direct wound and ostomy care in both inpatient and outpatient settings and delivers comprehensive patient and family education before and after procedures. This role supports hospital-wide initiatives to reduce hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) and improve skin integrity outcomes through assessment education and evidence-based practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct wound and ostomy care to inpatient and outpatient populations.

  • Serve as the clinical resource for ostomy continence disorders wound care skin breakdown and fistula management.

  • Conduct pre- and post-operative teaching for patients and families related to wound and ostomy management.

  • Assess and manage patients with pressure injuries including all Stage 3 and higher injuries.

  • Evaluate and manage hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPIs) and meet appropriate reporting requirements.

  • Assess overall hospital practices and support initiatives aimed at eliminating HAPIs.

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate skin and wound care products and equipment.

  • Provide educational programs in-services and bedside teaching for nursing staff.

  • Stay current with advancements in wound ostomy and skin care practices and share updates with staff.

  • Promote infection control patient safety and best practices in wound prevention and management.

  • Document assessments interventions and patient responses accurately in the medical record.

  • Perform additional duties within scope as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Current and valid California RN License.

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

  • Minimum 4 years of clinical nursing experience required.

  • Minimum 2 years of wound and ostomy experience preferred.

  • Current Wound and Ostomy Certification required.

  • Strong knowledge of infection control wound care practices and pressure injury prevention.

  • Effective interpersonal and patient counseling skills.

Shift Details
  • Regular position.
