Description of Work

Position is assigned to the Central Prison Healthcare Complex in Raleigh NC and is responsible for performing all aspects of laboratory medicine in the departments of hematology coagulation serology blood bank microbiology urinalysis chemistry and special chemistry as ordered by appropriate medical staff to include: Phlebotomy specimen preparation and testing. Position is responsible for recollecting or assisting in the collections of blood urine and tissue specimens for analysis using sophisticated lab equipment to look for bacteria parasites and other microorganisms. Utilizes knowledge of basic phlebotomy in the collection of all patient blood samples to include technique selection of specimen tubes based on tests ordered handling of specimens in preparation for testing & knowledge of specimen acceptability. Accurately labels specimens assists in collecting non-blood specimens and prepares blood & body fluid specimens for analysis. Performs required daily printing of reports for laboratory supervisors review.
