Location and Schedule

In this position you can expect to work a full-time schedule on-site at an assigned recreation center. This is a full-time position with a schedule that may include mornings evenings and weekends depending on operational hours and business needs. We are currently seeking applicants for vacancies at the following locations listed below:

• Swansea Recreation Center (2650 E 49th Ave Denver) scheduled to open later this year this is an exciting new indoor natatorium.

• Montbello Recreation Center (15555 E 53rd Ave. Denver) or

• Carla Madison Recreation Center (2401 E. Colfax Ave. Denver)

Location preferences at the time of application will be considered but not guaranteed. This position may be assigned to any Department of Parks and Recreation-operated facility as required by organization needs now and anytime in the future.

What Youll Do

With a staff of over 450 lifeguards across 16 indoor and 16 outdoor swimming pools it takes a team of dedicated diverse knowledgeable and enthusiastic professionals to ensure the highest-quality aquatic programs safety and customer service are being delivered to communities across Denver. The City and County of Denvers Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is currently seeking an adept and accomplished recreation professional to join this team as an Aquatics Coordinator.

In this position you will create coordinate and plan a variety of aquatic programs classes and activities while managing the day-to-day operations of a municipal indoor pool. This is a great opportunity to work for a large and diverse aquatics program while promoting new and exciting aquatic opportunities to the surrounding community.

Core objectives of this position include partnering with other Aquatic Coordinators to deliver swimming lessons water fitness classes and lifeguard in-services. Your work will include modeling behaviors and requirements for this position you can expect to be lifeguard rotation teaching swimming lessons or instructing aqua fitness classes as needed. Finally your work will support the overall recreation center team and recreation operations for the center you are assigned to.

As an Aquatics Coordinator you will:

• Create implement and lead Aquatics programs including swimming lessons and special events

• Assist with the recruitment hiring training supervision and coaching of part time staff members including Lifeguards and Swim Lesson Instructors

• Oversee staff scheduling for Aquatics part time staff at your facility

• Evaluate the success of programs and provide feedback to the Aquatics Core Team

• Conduct regular staff training on emergency procedures

• Deliver equitable professional and prompt customer service to community members and facility users

• Create and foster partnerships with community leaders neighborhood organizations local schools and other community partners to design programs that fit their unique needs and promote employment opportunities

• Attend regular team meetings and collaborate with other Aquatics Coordinators Recreation Supervisors and other city agencies

• Attend community events and serve as a Denver Parks and Recreation ambassador to the community

• Perform basic regular maintenance and repair of pool equipment in partnership with Pool Maintenance Technicians

• Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

What Youll Bring

We are looking for a dedicated and passionate aquatics professional who can function effectively on a team in a fast-paced environment. Our ideal candidate will have excellent customer service and communication skills with an eye for innovation efficiency and safety.

Additionally our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience skills and characteristics:

• Experience scheduling and staffing pools

• Experience facilitating aquatics programming

• Knowledge of successful recruitment and retention strategies for lifeguards

• Exceptional interpersonal skills including experience hiring working with and mentoring youth

• Excellent organizational skills

• Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Digiquatics (or other staff scheduling platforms)

• Experience delivering American Red Cross learning materials and classes

• Experience performing lead work/supervisory duties over aquatics staff

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification preferred at time of application

• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) and/or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certifications preferred at time of application

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED HiSET or TASC Certificate.

• Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of work experience instructing in an organized aquatic program involving the monitoring of pool equipment pool chemicals and pool operations.

• Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.

• Licensure/Certifications: Requires a Lifeguard Training Certification CPR and AED Certifications for Professional Rescuers and First Aid Certification at the time of application. Requires a Lifeguard Instructor Certification First Aid Instructor Certification and a Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification prior to completion of the probationary period. Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment.
