Purpose

The Court Caseworker serves as part of a case managementteam that supports defendants participating in the Court Alternative Services(CAS) Program.

Essential Functions

Case Management Support

  • Process referrals to the CAS program and to services for defendants enrolled in the CAS program.
  • Appear in Court (in person or virtually) with assigned defendants.
  • Assist with the treatment review process including gathering paperwork and ensuring the proper completion of forms by defendants.
  • Conduct regular follow-ups with defendants treatment providers and community service organization (CSO) site supervisors regarding program participants.
  • Support the facilitation of defendant referrals to additional services.
  • Provide defendant status reports to the Court and/or Court Social Worker.
  • Interview defendants referred to the program by either a personal recognizance bond or the in-custody list for program participation.
  • Provide written reports on the services provided to the community including defendant participation.
  • Support the Court with in-custody verification for program participants.
  • Draft written requests for credit consideration to the Municipal Judges for time spent in custody by program participants.

Administrative Functions

  • Perform administrative support functions including completing paperwork for the review and approval by the Court Social Worker.
  • Update and maintain program information including participant records.
  • Perform data entry of case information into various systems.
  • Review defendant case notes and address concerns with the Court Social Worker and Deputy Court Administrator.
  • Maintain and update the community service site (CSO) list mental health resources list and other resource logs.
  • Support the Court Social Worker in addressing requests for information from various stakeholders.

Community Engagement

  • Attend community engagement sessions with the Chief Court Administrator Deputy Court Administrator or Court Social Worker. Assist with community outreach and engagement events.
  • Research resources special events and programs within Milwaukee County that are beneficial to defendants and the CAS program.
  • Attend training sessions.
  • Create reports and statistics regarding Court community outreach and other data metrics.

Conditions of Employment

The Court Caseworker must be willing and able to:

  • Pass a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Criminal Justice Information Services Division (CJIS) background investigation and clearance check and maintain clearance throughout employment.
  • Lift and move up to 10 pounds on occasion.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Associate degree in human services or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR two years of community outreach or social service experience performing duties closely related to the essential functions of this position.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may alsobe considered.

  • Ability to understand the judicial system and how it functions.
  • Ability to perform general clerical tasks accurately and efficiently including data entry and record-keeping.
  • Ability to learn and apply clerical procedures court operations and administrative policies.
  • Ability to accurately maintain numerical and alphabetical filing systems.
  • Ability to read understand and interpret work-related documents such as court documents processes policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency in standard computer applications such as Outlook Microsoft Word PowerPoint Excel and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to learn and efficiently utilize Court systems and databases.

Communication and Interpersonal

  • Knowledge of customer service best practices and the ability to effectively integrate them into operational processes.
  • Ability to provide services in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Verbal communication skills to share information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences including groups.
  • Written communication skills to accurately document defendant information such as case notes treatment and care plans and to produce written reports and job-related correspondence.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary staff the public and other agencies.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and fairly with people whose backgrounds may differ from ones own.

Current Salary

The current salary range (Pay Range 5CN) is$48084-$57952annually and the resident incentive salary range is$50007-$60270 annually.Appointmentabove the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and otherqualifications and is subject to approval.
