JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for supporting University departments and researchers ensuring regulatory compliance with research security requirements across all campus addition the Research Security and Integrity Analyst will support research integrity proceedings by performing research and analysis of images data and information for the assessment inquiry and investigation phases.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with US Government or academic research activities and regulations.
- Experience in Risk Management and Intelligence Analysis.
- Experience with managing NIST SP 800-171 IT security requirements.
- Familiarity with utilizing open source and proprietary databases to perform due diligence checks such as Academic Analytics Visual Compliance and Pitchbook.
- Strong understanding of how to perform and present due diligence analysis.
- Familiarity with computer forensic tools.
- Understanding of export control regulations and trends in the research security and research integrity fields both within the US as well as the UK Canada and the EU.
- Knowledge of industrial security administration contracts and government databases.
- Ability to analyze a variety of research data including images to detect areas of further inquiry as part of the research misconduct process.
- Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in a STEM field or other related field with four to six years of related experience.
- To conform to U.S. export control regulations applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government.
- Two (2) or more years of export control research security information security cybersecurity information security and/or information systems engineering experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
1) Research Security
- Manage and develop research security resources such as SOPs presentations and operations.
- Manage and resolve research information security matters by collaborating with researchers Research Enterprise Services (NU-RES) and ITS.
- Coordinate with the college and respective department Office of General Export Controls Research Compliance Federal Agencies and others to ensure compliance in activities related to Controlled Unclassified Information and research security incidents and prevention.
- Consult with Principal Investigator (PI) in pre-award or post-award review of research security mitigation plans information technology security requirements and privacy controls compliance requirements.
- Advise PIs on editing compliance templates to specify basic and derived security requirements for research security programs required by funding agencies.
- Assist in developing reports from various systems and datasets to support and enhance the development of a research security program.
- Partner and advise business units in the creation of necessary data flow and documentation to facilitate a research security program such as partnering with global travel safety to route relevant information for assessment.
- Work with Research compliance Export Controls and ITS to develop project specific information security and privacy controls in collaboration with the PI.
- Manage an assessment program to review compliance objectives and support the risk management program.
- Be and remain current with relevant regulations perform periodic control reviews and document compliance within federal and international research security requirements.
2) Processes Procedures & Training
- Participate in the security incident response process for to ensure compliant reaction to research security incidents.
- Coordinate with University Compliance on the development and implementation of a global due diligence program. Coordinate with OGC on the development and implementation of a process for visiting scholars.
- Coordinate with ECO to ensure that dual use technologies are properly assessed and protected.
- Manage the Research Security and Research Integrity steering committees by creating the agendas and steering conversations on compliance requirements.
- Partnering with regulatory oversight committees such as the IRB and IBC to ensure research security and export control assessments are routinely performed.
- Organize training program for research personnel in collaboration the Associate Director of Training and Learning including partnering with other offices to ensure specialized areas are covered in written guidance.
3) Assessment Inquiry and Investigation
- Supports the research integrity process by analyzing images data and other supporting materials to facilitate inquiry and investigation.
- Support the Chief Research Compliance Officer and Chief Research Operations Officer in staffing any research misconduct panels.
4) Partner with the COI Analyst to utilize tools and develop processes for evaluating disclosures and conducting investigations related to research security and international research engagement concerns

Expected Hiring Range:
$76335.00 - $107823.75
With the pay range(s) shown above the starting salary will depend on several factors which may include your education experience location knowledge and expertise and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
