The ER Head Technician supports and oversees the ER Registered Veterinary Technicians while continuing to provide advanced handson patient care. This role is responsible for maximizing team productivity and efficiency supporting training and development maintaining safety and quality standards and ensuring excellent patient care in a fast-paced emergency environment. The ER Head Technician is an integral leader within the hospital and supports both the ER team and hospital operations as a whole. Reports To:Hospital Adminstrator Required Experience Education and/or Training:Ohio VeterinaryTechnician Certification or Licensure (CVT RVT LVT) Responsibilities Include: - Perform all duties that a Registered Veterinary Technician is able to by law under the supervision of a veterinarian while providing leadership and oversight within the Emergency Department.
- Manage and support day-to-day operations of the ER technician team.
- Assist with interviewing hiring onboarding and training of ER technicians.
- Coordinate ER scheduling and time-off requests to meet the operational needs of the clinic.
- Manage conflict and assist with resolving staff concerns in a professional and timely manner.
- Evaluate the development progress and productivity of ER technicians.
- Educate new team members on hospital guidelines protocols and ER workflows.
- Facilitate Registered Veterinary Technician student internships and ER training experiences.
- Ensure all patients entering the ER are properly cared for in a clean safe and comfortable environment.
- Maintain safety standards for patients medical staff and team members.
- Assist with ER technician timecard review and payroll preparation.
- Provide advanced nursing care to emergency and critical patients including monitoring treatments and patient advocacy.
- Assess critical walk-in emergency patients for stability obtain vitals and perform CPR if necessary.
- Perform drug calculations and draw up medications including controlled substances with appropriate documentation.
- Induce maintain monitor and recover anesthetized and sedated patients.
- Administer medications subcutaneous intramuscular and intravenous including nerve blocks as directed.
- Perform venipuncture place intravenous catheters and intubate patients.
- Read and interpret laboratory results including fecals cytologies platelet counts skin scrapes and mite checks.
- Fill prescriptions and provide thorough client communication and education as directed by veterinarians.
- Perform humane euthanasia when directed by a veterinarian.
- Ensure accurate medical record documentation in accordance with hospital guidelines.
- Maintain a neat and organized ER work environment.
- Complete all essential functions of the department including tasks that may not be performed daily demonstrating versatility and a comprehensive understanding of the role.
- Perform other duties as assigned while aligning with the hospitals core values of service excellence and respect.

- Requires sufficient ambulatory skills in order to perform duties while at hospital.
- Ability to stand walk stoop kneel crouch and climb as well as manipulate (lift carry move) up to 50 pounds.
