Our client is a respected maritime organisation providing comprehensive technical services and solutions to a wide range of vessels. We are currently looking to expand the procurement team with a Buyer to provide vital support to the Technical Department
Buyer
(Based in Hong Kong)
ORGANIZATION :
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own vessel purchasing execution from request to fulfilment balancing urgency/criticality with cost and delivery commitments.
- Handle requisitions in the Internal purchasing system ensuring every transaction aligns with internal controls contracts and approved buying routes.
- Work with supply chain leads and vendors to align pricing availability and delivery planssupporting consistent cost discipline.
- Create clear accurate POs and close the loop with suppliers by securing acknowledgements and resolving documentation gaps early.
- Actively manage order progress (expediting where required) so deliveries land as planned and operational disruption is minimized.
- Be the daily point of contact for vessels and local stakeholders (agents and chandlers) responding quickly to queries and fixing supply issues on the ground.
- Track and share supplier and ship chandler service levels with Captains and Superintendents to strengthen budget control and vendor performance.
- Verify invoices against orders and deliveries and support timely payment processing with clean accurate documentation.
- Contribute ideas and improvements that raise service quality speed and consistency across the procurement team.
Requirements
- A degree in Business Administration Supply Chain Management engineering or a related field (or relevant practical experience)
- 3 years plus experience in a procurement or purchasing role in the maritime/shipping industry
- Strong understanding of supply chain procurement processes merchant vessel operations
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel Word PowerPoint)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail particularly in managing multiple tasks and deadlines
- Effective communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to liaise with vendors vessels and internal teams
- Multitasking ability and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to learn and support team members in resolving operational issues
