A vacancy has arisen for a Sgt (People Ops People Specialist) to serve as SNCO People Talent and Engagement at 614 (County of Glamorgan) Sqn in Cardiff on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 03 August 2026 (or earlier/later subject to candidate status).
The SNCO People Talent and Engagement is responsible for the units organic people operations (human resources) that enables the Ops Flt which is the Sqns cadre of Part-Time Volunteer Reservists (PTVR). They will report to the Sqn Flight Sergeant (FS) and to OC HQ Flt (FTRS OF-2).
614 Sqn has a rich heritage that started in 1937 and achieved a distinguished operational record firstly as Army co-operation and then as a bomber and pathfinder squadron during World War II achieving 7 Battle Honours throughout North Africa and Europe.
The Sqn is now an Airbase Operational Support Sqn (AOSS) encompassing 9 professions which provides dedicated support at RAF Brize Norton - the RAFs largest main operating base - to enable the Air Mobility Force to prepare for and deliver global operations. 614 Sqn is Wales only RAF Reserve sqn and recruits from across South Wales and the West of England.
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Sgt who will fit into an established team quickly and be tireless in improving the lived experience of our PTVR officers and aviators. SNCO People Talent and Engagement will be responsible for:
- Managing all people ops and pay-related matters and will be the primary focal point for all JPA-related queries.
- Maintaining of all JPA records manage annual appraisals and assist with PTVR career management.
- Coordinating the mobilisations of the PTVRs and preparing the Certificates of Efficiency.
- Managing the Unit Establishment inputting roles and responsibilities and maintaining position hierarchies for the Sqn.
- Engaging and maintaining good relations with Reservists employers by arranging bespoke communications and physical and online events.
- Managing all 614 Sqn community engagement and marketing events that includes arranging promotional and marketing material maintaining an event stand and coordinating and prioritising a unit event calendar.
- In coordination with the Southern England & Wales Reserve Support Wing (SEWRSW) (that conducts the recruitment and selections of the Sqns candidates) based at RAF Norton manage every candidate within the 614 Sqn recruitment pipeline that includes:
- Monitor the Sqns Recruitment Pipeline to ensure that candidates move through every stage quickly and without undue hindrance.
- Communicate with every candidate regularly to ensure they are aware of what is required at each of the recruitment stages and answer any questions.
- Arrange information events to inform Sqn candidates of the RAF Reserves 614 Sqn and the recruitment progress.
- Ensure that there is sufficient empty JPANs for every candidate.
- Organise the attestation of every Sqn candidate.
Regular attendance at Ty Llewellyn Reserves Centre in central Cardiff and at Sqn duty weekends is expected although remote working is encouraged outside of formal working days and training events. There will be routine UK travel including an opportunity to participate in overseas expeditions and staff rides.
