Properly identifies out patients by verbal confirmation and positive identification system.
Properly identifies and labels patients specimens for Blood Bank testing using the positive patient identification system.
Properly identifies patients and adequately performs venipunctures and/or skin punctures.
Uses appropriate aseptic technique to draw blood cultures
Clearly and accurately labels all specimens immediately after venipuncture and completes necessary documentation
Evaluates specimen adequacy Receives specimens in the computer and delivers them to the appropriate department
Monitors inventory levels and follows appropriate protocol for re-ordering supplies
Deletes or cancels orders as necessary with full documentation of reason and colleague they spoke with.
Collates requests answers the telephone delivers specimens to appropriate department and operates the pneumatic tube Always demonstrates proper telephone etiquette
Consistently assumes responsibility for calls correctly answers questions directs inquiries and takes messages
Adapts work schedule to meet emergency staffing needs Is responsive courteous respectful and cooperative in completing tasks
Collects TIMED and STAT tests within designated time period
Maintains supplies carts workstations in a neat clean and orderly manner
Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications:
High School Diploma/Equivalent required
Phlebotomy Certification or equivalent training
