NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:
The purpose of Autism Spectrum Disorder Teacher is to provide needed educational service for children identified with autism spectrum disorders.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Abides by Board policies and other state and federal regulations concerning students with disabilities.
2. When appropriate serves on multidisciplinary teams and serves as case facilitator when needed.
3. Provides the guidance for the teachers and para-educators of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
4. Serves as a consultant and provides in-service training to teachers parents and others concerned.
5. Is responsible for the development of Individual Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities; implements the IEP; and uses diagnostic information obtained from tests and other assessment procedures to update IEPs as needed.
6. Implement best practice and evidence based strategies that work effectively with students with Autism.
7. Develop implement and evaluate the effectiveness of behavior support plans by monitoring student behavior; maintaining discipline in the classroom; de-escalating inappropriate behaviors; and teaching appropriate behavioral strategies.
8. Employs a variety of teaching methods to meet student needs. Implementation of these methods may require the adaptation or development of materials.
9. Plan and implement academic instruction for students who exhibit communication social and behavioral challenges using evidence based methods.
10. Plan and implement non-academic instruction in areas such as social skills toilet training and community based instruction.
11. Supervise and provide necessary training for Para-professionals.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Participates in professional activities as part of the assignment.
2. Ensures professional growth through conferences workshops in-services and related professional readings.
3. Performs any other duties assigned by supervisor(s).

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess a Wyoming State Teaching Certificate in Special Education.
Must possess a valid Wyoming Drivers License.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND MENTAL ABILITY:
* Possess a broad general knowledge of all subject areas with specific knowledge needed in contract areas.
* Possess group dynamics and interpersonal skills.
* Possess knowledge of physiological psychological emotional and educational behavioral development of children.
* Possess classroom developmentally appropriate management skills which include discipline as well as record keeping and assessment abilities.
* Possess technological and computer skills.
* Possess problem solving imagination patience reasoning creativity judgment and analytical abilities.
* Possess a general knowledge of Federal Special Education Law.

EDUCATION LICENSE CERTIFICATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:
* Possess all certificates required for the State of Wyoming.
* Possess at a minimum a Bachelors Degree.
* Continue to pursue graduate level classes for professional growth.
