Summary
The Seibold and Moore Laboratories are seeking a passionate and highly motivated Bioinformatics Analyst II to join our cutting-edge NIH-funded research team. Our laboratories bring together an interdisciplinary group of experts in cell biology skin and molecular biology alongside experts in computational biology bioinformatics and statistical genetics. Our research focuses on unraveling the complex pathobiological mechanisms underlying atopic dermatitis food allergy asthma and other allergic diseases. The goal of our work is to identify and characterize pathobiological subtypes (i.e. endotypes) of allergic disease and to determine the genetic environmental and immunological factors that drive disease development progression and treatment response.
The successful candidate will lead bioinformatics and biostatistical analyses to investigate how different types of skin pathobiology (i.e. endotypes) present in early life underlie the development of atopic dermatitis and how this early life skin dysfunction subsequently leads to the development of other allergic diseases including food allergy allergic rhinitis and asthma. Specifically the successful candidate will::
- Implement pipelines and workflows for RNA-sequencing whole genome sequencing eQTL mapping and transcriptome wide association studies
- Conduct statistical analysis and data visualization for longitudinal gene expression data
- Interpret and explain results
- Write manuscripts for publication
- Collaborate with a diverse research team
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in bioinformatics biostatistics computer science or related field
- Experience with bioinformatics tools and high-throughput genetic/genomic data analysis
- Proficiency in UNIX/LINUX and high-performance computing environments
- Strong programming skills (e.g. R Python Perl Java C)
- Familiarity with statistical methods and data analysis
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects
Preferred Skills:
- Masters or Ph.D. in a relevant field
- Experience with RNA-seq single-cell RNA-seq and eQTL mapping
- Background in allergic diseases especially atopic dermatitis and food allergy

- Collaborates with and supports scientists in the area of bioinformatics analysis.
- Assists with the design and development of major bioinformatics-related programming projects.
- Writes custom scripts to access databases and analyze data.
- Writes custom web tools for scientists.
- Assists with the preparation and teaching of courses and/or demonstrations on the use of bioinformatics tools.
- Interprets complex biological information. Performs tasks to reduce and consolidate output from software. Prepares data for utilization by other scientists.
- Develops and uses gene/protein functional annotation tools and programs.
- May develop and maintain searchable databases.
- May direct and guide DNA RNA small molecule and protein sequence database searches and the computational analysis of resulting data.
- Uses version control and other reproducible research practices.
- Writes sections for reports and other dissemination of research methods and findings.
