About the role

AEMOs System Design division plays a central role in shaping and planning the future power system as Australia undergoes rapid transformation. As renewable generation scales and electrification accelerates the volume of new transmission distribution and generation projects continues to grow at an unprecedented rate.

With more than 160 GW of new generation forecast to connect over the next 30 years this role places you at the centre of the nations energy transition. You will help integrate a diverse mix of technologies including onshore and offshore wind hydro solar battery and storage systems and emerging hydrogen projects ensuring the system evolves reliably and efficiently.

You will work closely with network service providers developers investors equipment manufacturers technology specialists consultants and government and regulatory bodies collaborating daily with key experts across the this role you will undertake power system modelling investigate current system behaviour and limitations and pragmatically align new generating plants with operational requirements. You will work collaboratively with network service providers developers and original equipment manufacturers to resolve generator model and power system issues while also working across the business to understand how system constraints and operational developments influence new connections. A crucial part of the role is translating technically complex problems into clear plain English and explaining how they affect stakeholder priorities.

You will have opportunities to visit the projects you help bring to life and build longterm relationships with key energy industry participants. As you provide training and mentorship to junior team members you will also have the chance to build your professional reputation through industry forums working groups conferences and memberships.

Reporting to the Team Lead Onboarding and Connections this role can be based in any state. AEMO provides an essential service and actively supports flexible working arrangements. Strong team structures a positive culture and effective communication tools ensure all employees remain closely connected to each other and the wider organisation.

What you will be doing

  • Collaborate with network service providers generation developers OEMs and connection applicants to negotiate performance standards and progress commissioning activities.
  • Conduct power system simulations and analysis to determine grid connection requirements for largescale generators.
  • Evaluate generator models and control system performance interpret simulation outcomes and provide robust evidencebased technical recommendations.
  • Communicate complex technical information clearly and effectively through highquality written and verbal outputs tailored to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Enhance analysis and reporting tools manage multiple concurrent projects and proactively build AEMOs reputation as a trusted partner across the energy industry.

What you will bring to the role

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or other discipline relevant to power systems analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and contributing to technical project teams applying a pragmatic serviceoriented and outcomefocused approach to problem solving
  • Welldeveloped capability in managing generator connection processes including assessing and resolving generator and power system performance issues.
  • Strong ability to negotiate and navigate complex technical matters involving commercial and reputational considerations with an understanding of the key drivers for largescale infrastructure and generation developers.
  • Excellent communication skills able to clearly explain technical concepts to nontechnical audiences and influence stakeholders effectively.
