GAI Consultants is currently seeking a Technical Specialist 3 to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department. The successful candidate will work on various substation engineering projects including detailed design for high voltage substation projects from 12kV through in GAIs corporate culture that empowers employee advancement with support for career and professional development and engages with staff to build mutual trust and respect and consideration for diverse perspectives people experiences and ideas.
Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed design of low to extra-high-voltage substations and switchyards
- Develop and/or revise existing drawings for one-line physical arrangement electrical schematics electrical wiring diagrams grounding conduit and wire schedules bill of materials site development battery sizing and equipment layout including coordinating with CAD operators to develop organized quality CAD drawings
- Integrate physical layout and design of substations to interface with protection and control drawings or vice versa
- Develop control and relay panel layouts including assembling the specifications
- Create project criteria
- Develop design specifications including the overall bill of materials
- Design and size auxiliary systems including AC/DC load centers as well as batteries and chargers
- Design and size conduit cable and backup generators
- Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews
- Assist with the technical development of the scope of services and cost estimates for substation and P&C projects
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelors (B.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited program with a strong academic background and coursework in electrical power concepts/AC power systems analysis
- Strong communication skills including written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
- Detail-oriented and able to demonstrate professionalism at all times with a Client First approach to all interactions
- Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and possess strong time management skills.
- Proficient with MS Office applications

- Familiarity with substation design

Management Responsibility
- Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance when necessary on unconventional/complex problems direction on modified techniques and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
- Occasionally attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.
Communication Skills
