The Role
We are looking for a Lead Mechanical Engineer experienced in spacecraft mechanical design structural analysis manufacturing supervision as well as testing and pre-launch qualification. Ideally a person who has been involved in designing and building satellite platforms for payloads requiring precise actuation control and stabilization as well as who participated in components selection (working with manufacturers and contractors) and environmental (thermal vibration) this role you will be involved in leading the technical activities focused on development of the new satellite platform enhancing ICEYE next generation spacecraft.
What Youll Do
- Be a key founding member of the small team responsible for spacecraft systems lifecycle from design up to in-orbit validation. The team will bring the design into full production commissioning and operations of the imaging instrument including all phases along the way - testing qualification verification and iterating on necessary steps.
- Be a technical leader for design and optimization of the satellite platform and oversee manufacturing testing and qualification campaign. Due to the nature of the project and size of the founding tiger team its expected to actively participate in the CAD and other engineering activities.
- Working with manufacturers of the components and subsystems to ensure the right quality alignment and performance of delivered components and mechanisms.
Requirements- Expert knowledge and hands-on skills of mechanical CAD design analysis and optimization including all phases of the project from the concept up to material and structural analysis.
- Familiarity with the material science and engineering being able to guide material selection and analysis for the space environment (outgassing thermal cycling thermoelastic effects).
- Familiarity with testing especially TVAC and vibration testing and pre-launch qualification campaigns.
- Experience in working with optical components manufacturers to ensure the right selection of the components and their quality to meet requirements of the designed system.
- Embracing the challenge mindset of owning problems and solving them capability of taking risks and leaning forward when needed. R&D style of learning by doing and iterating on the parts that require improvement.
- Experience in delivering design through suppliers - proven record of working directly together with manufacturers and subcontractors in order to get the design delivered to production verified and validated.
Nice-To-Haves
- Experience in QA for the optical components and AIT for the optical systems and/or precise mechanisms.
- Experience in high-precision actuated optical systems is a plus.
- Experience with vacuum and cryogenic applications and materials used in the aerospace industry.
