A high achieving and ambitious secondary school in Bristol is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Design & Technology to lead its successful department from April 2026. Design & Technology is a popular and high-performing subject within the school with strong outcomes at GCSE and KS5 provision across Product Design and related disciplines. The department benefits from modern workshops quality equipment and a collaborative teaching team.

The Role

• Leading and managing the Design & Technology department across KS3 KS4 and KS5

• Driving high standards of teaching learning and assessment

• Developing an ambitious industry-relevant DT curriculum

• Overseeing workshop safety compliance and resource management

• Line managing and mentoring DT staff

• Monitoring pupil progress and implementing attainment strategies

• Managing departmental budgets and contributing to strategic planning

• Supporting whole-school improvement and leadership initiatives

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

• A degree in Design & Technology or related discipline

• Proven experience teaching DT at secondary level including examination groups

• Previous leadership experience within a department

• A strong track record of raising standards and improving outcomes

• Excellent organisational and strategic leadership skills

• Strong knowledge of workshop health & safety compliance
