About the role

In this role you will work closely with a wide range of industry stakeholders including network service providers renewable developers investors equipment manufacturers technology partners consultants governments and regulators. You will act as the technical commissioning lead for a variety of renewable energy projects overseeing commissioning activities assessing power system behaviour and limitations and ensuring new generation aligns with NEM operational requirements. You will also test and implement solutions to shared power system and market challenges affecting new connections and help deliver improvements that streamline and enhance the overall connections experience.

The role offers the opportunity to build long-term relationships with key players across the energy sector contribute to industry forums working groups and conferences and provide mentoring and guidance to junior team members. Reporting to the Manager Commissioning this position can be based in any state. AEMO provides an essential service and supports flexible working arrangements underpinned by strong team culture structure and communication practices that keep all employees connected across the organisation.

What you will be doing

  • Develop effective and proactive relationships with a range of critical stakeholders to ensure the right outcomes for National Connections team and broader organisation.
  • Lead the preparation critical review and approval of comprehensive technical reports.
  • Provide technical leadership and authority while representing AEMO at both internal and external forums.
  • Proactively strengthen AEMOs position as the trusted advisor to developers market participants government agencies and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide project-based mentoring and expert guidance to technical staff and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare clear concise and high quality written and verbal communication to inform internal or external stakeholders on a range of issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.

What you will bring to the role

  • A wealth of experience leading commissioning activities across renewable generation and T&D projects.
  • Extensive experience in hold point testing and witnessing across a range of generator systems and plants.
  • Solid expertise in R2 compliance and R2 model validation requirements including proficiency in PSSE/PSCAD studies.
  • Proven track record in leading and delivering renewable projects applying a serviceoriented outcomefocused and pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Well-developed experience in managing generator commissioning processes with strong experience in assessing and resolving generator and power system performance issues.
  • Experience in negotiating the resolution of complex technical issues across stakeholders with competing objectives and a variety of commercial and reputational drivers.
  • Knowledge of the electricity industry NEM dispatch process generator behaviour and network constraints.
