About us

The Trauma Service is a high-volume quaternary referral centre and Victorias designated adult major trauma centre. The service manages approximately 1400 major trauma admissions per year and is supported by dedicated surgical nursing allied health and critical care teams. The Trauma Unit leads in trauma education research innovation and policy development across the state and internationally.

About the role

The Trauma Sonographer Educator will provide education supervision and credentialing support to medical and nursing staff in the Trauma Unit in the use of Point of Care Ultrasound (PoCUS). This includes focused training in eFAST RUSH procedural lung ultrasound cardiac echo and proximal DVT scanning.

This position plays a key role in maintaining ultrasound competency standards across the trauma service contributing to safe procedural practice rapid decision-making and enhanced patient care

About you

Essential:

  • Sonographer with DMU or equivalent post-graduate ultrasound qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience including work in emergency trauma or acute care settings.
  • Current ASAR registration as a general or cardiac sonographer.
  • Demonstrated experience in ultrasound education and credentialing.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in trauma or surgical critical care units.
  • Participation in trauma ultrasound courses (e.g. ATLS EFAST instructor CCPU credentialed modules).
