The Project Estimator plays a key supporting role within the construction and procurement team responsible for the accurate estimation documentation and ordering of construction projects from handover through to completion. The role focuses on maintaining exceptional accuracy in cost control fostering strong collaborative relationships with construction teams consultants suppliers and contractors and ensuring timely delivery of building information to support efficient site operations.
Key areas of responsibility
- Prepare detailed Bill of Quantities (BOQs) and complete accurate construction takeoffs across residential townhouse early learning and low-rise commercial projects in accordance with company methodology;
- Review and analyse contracts permits architectural drawings engineering plans and specifications to identify builder requirements errors or inconsistencies;
- Process Purchase Orders with detailed notes analyse supplier quotes for scope conformance and value for money and action Extra to Orders (ETOs) in a timely manner;
- Collaborate closely with construction personnel to ensure supplier and trade allocations align with project requirements and site methodologies;
- Implement self-checking measures cross-check peer takeoffs maintain estimating checklists and produce detailed clarification lists for project queries;
- Maintain pricing databases review monthly ETOs to identify improvement areas and implement effective cost control measures.
Minimum requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Construction Management Quantity Surveying Building or Estimating (mandatory);
- 3 years of experience in construction estimating quantity surveying or procurement-related role;
- Proficient in estimating software and tools (e.g. CostX Cubit Buildsoft or similar takeoff platforms);
- Strong understanding of construction documentation including reading architectural and engineering drawings;
- Excellent attention to detail with proven ability to produce accurate BOQs and cost analysis;
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder liaison;
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines;
- Familiarity with residential townhouse early learning or commercial construction projects is advantageous.
