Position Purpose
The Tooling Engineer is responsible for developing and managing tooling projects from order through delivery. This role works closely with Engineering Quality and Operations to ensure successful tooling launches that achieve high first-pass yield and meet all customer requirements.
Essential Duties
Design simulate sample and maintain foundry tooling including patterns core boxes fixtures and gages
Utilize customer-supplied part geometry and specifications to meet design and quality requirements
Apply a strong understanding of foundry processes particularly green sand molding
Maintain a basic understanding of ductile iron metallurgy
Develop detailed CAD layouts for new patterns and core boxes
Maintain and update customer web portals to support accurate and timely data transitions
Coordinate with external tooling vendors including quoting project management and inspection of received tooling
Design and create drawings for CNC machining fixtures across multiple machining cells
Read and interpret customer blueprints
Assist with tooling and part layout/measurement using CMM and 3D scanning equipment
Support foundry sampling programs with a hands-on approach when required
Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills / Abilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint)
SolidWorks or similar CAD software experience required
Advanced knowledge of GD&T
Ability to lift push and pull up to 50 lbs
Ability to work flexible hours as needed
Comfortable working in high-temperature manufacturing environments
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Professional demeanor and workplace etiquette
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
Foundry experience preferred
Working knowledge of APQP and PPAP (automotive) desired
Minimum 2 years of experience in CNC machining or a related manufacturing environment
