About the role

We are recruiting for a permanent full-time Technical Advisor Water Quality based in our Albany Regional Office.

This role will provide a fantastic opportunity to build and develop valuable skills as a member of a high performing professional team and business.

You will lead implementation of the Water Corporations Drinking Water Quality Management Framework within the Great Southern Region to ensure the provision of safe drinking water to our customers in line with the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.

In this role you will be responsible for the daytoday reactive management of drinking water quality across the Great Southern Region. This includes actively reviewing and interpreting water quality results identifying emerging trends or issues and coordinating timely responses to ensure compliance with health and regulatory standards.

You will oversee and contribute to key reporting requirements such as annual drinking water quality reporting source protection reporting and regulatory reporting to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER).

Strong data management skills will be essential as the role involves maintaining accurate water quality datasets validating information and ensuring consistency across internal systems.

This position will suit someone with a science chemistry environmental or public health background who enjoys applying technical knowledge to realworld problems working with data and responding quickly and effectively to water quality challenges.

About You

A current valid drivers licence is required as the role includes regional travel to operational districts such as Esperance Narrogin and surrounding areas.

What the role will involve

Develop and implement DWQmonitoring programsto ensure provision of safe drinking water.

Undertake and support water quality investigations site inspections catchment management strategy reviews water safety plan development and internal and external process audits.

Support the Incident Manager and lead response activities relating to Drinking Water Quality Incidents.

Lead input into the water resource licensing process includingthe deployment of the Water Resource Management Operations Strategy (WRMOS) within the region to ensure ongoing compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.

Identify assess and report hazards and risks in DWQ catchments water treatment plants distribution and reticulation systems and support development of relevant contingency plan and actions to mitigate risks.

Manage performance reporting process within the region along with the ongoing review of variances and trendsto identify and coordinate actions in response to risks to water source compliance.

Actively engage and maintain relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders including regulatory and government agencies.

What your first few months will look like

Step into the role with an open mind and a willingness to adapt as you learn our systems processes and regional priorities.

A big focus will be on building strong working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders from Operators on the ground and local Operations Managers through to our Perthbased Water Quality Business Unit.

Spend time developing rapport understanding how each team contributes to drinking water quality outcomes and learning the nuances of the Great Southern Regions water sources and infrastructure.

Strong communication skills will be essential as you will be speaking with people at all levels of the business often translating technical water quality concepts into clear and practical information.

During this early period you will also start getting familiar with drinking water quality results incident responses data systems and reporting requirements gradually taking ownership as your confidence grows.

Key Skills & Experience:

Degree qualification in environmental science engineering or science AND considerable experience in drinking water quality management and catchment management

OR

Tertiary qualification in environmental science engineering or science AND substantial experience in drinking water quality management and catchment management

OR

Extensive experience in drinking water quality management and catchment management.
