Director of Regulatory Affairs US FinTech
Location: United States Remote (US) or Hybrid (NYC / SF Bay Area / Austin / Miami). Open to candidates based in: NY NJ CT CA TX FL MA IL (and other states depending on client).
Reports to: CCO / General Counsel.
Role Overview
The Director of Regulatory Affairs leads external regulatory engagement licensing strategy and regulatory change management for a US FinTech. This role ensures the organisation remains ahead of regulatory developments and maintains strong credible relationships with oversight bodies.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead regulatory engagement strategy across federal and state regulators; coordinate communications submissions and responses.
- Own multi-state licensing strategy and maintenance (where applicable); manage renewals reporting and change notifications.
- Track and interpret evolving regulations; run regulatory change management and impact assessments.
- Support exam readiness and coordinate exam response programs including evidence collection and issue remediation tracking.
- Partner with internal stakeholders (product legal compliance operations) to align controls and documentation with regulatory expectations.
- Develop governance materials and executive briefings on regulatory risk upcoming changes and required actions.
Requirements
Required Experience
- 712 years in regulatory affairs compliance or legal/regulatory roles within financial services/FinTech.
- Experience with state licensing frameworks and regulator engagement.
- Strong written communication and stakeholder management skills; able to brief executives clearly.
Preferred Background
- Exposure to payments and/or lending regulatory frameworks; broker-dealer exposure a plus where relevant.
- Experience leading or supporting regulatory examinations and remediation programs.

Compensation Guidance
Typical US compensation: $160000 $230000 base plus bonus/equity depending on stage.
