Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of IT the Senior Software Engineer is a creative and passionate software engineer. They are responsible to help build and launch software infrastructure to support our employees and customers. They will maintain platforms for our customer-base ensuring uptime and appropriate functionality. The Senior Software Engineer collaborates with the IT team to provide input into solutions support and ensure department standards are met.

From time to time this individual will complete other duties as assigned by management to assist with special projects.

Major Responsibilities

Web Application Management 55%

  • Create and maintain a web version of a portion of our existing solution to enable banks to self-service their cash supply chain; taking existing code in ERP system and translating into ASP coding to create a form that mirrors current functionality by re-writing the code; focusing on front-end fixes system enhancements and system changes for the banks; and responding and investigating tickets presented to add new parameters or to fix bugs with system.
  • Provide input and follow the decisions in technology selection and coding standards; identifying unique challenges that impact web development of applications and how technological decisions will impact the web form; and researching the impact of proposed changes of the web environment to provide justification for challenges.
  • Collaborate with IT team members on projects through code reviews and design discussions to develop applications; ensuring web-based coding standards are in line with IT department best practices; testing standards of design; and confirming that the coding matches department standards.

Departmental Support 37.5%

  • Learn the common issues that are faced by other IT staff to understand how issues they face are resolved; troubleshooting errors with assistance other IT staff.
  • Provide backup support of all IT tickets related to ERP user bug fixes and change requests that are handled by other IT staff to resolve issues when needed; conducting cost analysis and receiving approval when necessary; and determining the scope of the parameters to build out effective solutions using the information gathered.

Staffing Resource Management 2.5%

  • Ensure all job descriptions for team are current determining any responsibility realignment for department and determining hiring needs.
  • Assess new employee proposals providing input to all tasks for each role and determining any requirements needed to perform the role.
  • Hire new employees for department assessing candidates against requirements determined for role; selecting a candidate for hire ensuring all steps are taken to properly onboard.
  • Handle leaves of absence resignations and terminations for direct reports liaising with the Director of Human Resources to facilitate the leave and to determine a replacement needs to be hired for the employee coordinating their division of job responsibilities with other department staff and ensuring appropriate documentation and return of company property is received and completed.

Employee Development 2.5%

  • Coordinate and conduct the training of new and existing staff within department.
  • Provide guidance and constructive feedback to direct reports on a daily basis to enhance employee productivity.
  • Meet with direct reports to address their concerns in collaboration with Director of Human Resources or Head of Information Technology when necessary and determining a resolution.
  • Write and provide performance evaluations to direct reports discussing areas they are thriving in and needing improvement and setting obtainable goals.

Self-Development 2.5%

  • Attend and participate in team meetings providing feedback in relation to areas handled as part of role.
  • Review performance with manager with the intent to enhance productivity capacity and capability.

Education and Training

  • University Degree focusing in Computer Science or Computer Engineering.

Experience Technical Skills and Key Competencies

  • At least 5 to 10 years of experience designing and building scalable and performing data-driven software applications.
  • Experience designing services based and/or tiered web and mobile applications
  • Experience working in a continuous integration and deployment development environment
  • Experience with implementation of batch file processing and real-time API services
  • Experience in: .Net Framework C# SQL Server Visual Studio TFS.
  • Experience with Azure cloud an Asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of software design concepts and patterns.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Writes stellar code - readable testable and maintainable.
  • Proven time management organizational and follow-up skills to meet deadlines.
  • Quality-orientation with high attention to detail and passion for customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
