DescriptionPosition:The Native Stewardship Lead supports the daily operations of Beyond Housings Forestry and Community Conservation program within the 24:1. This role helps implement native habitat projects maintain community green spaces and guide field crews working to improve the ecological health of local landscapes. The position also contributes to workforce development efforts and supports community engagement in environmental stewardship in collaboration with municipal and regional partners.
- Supervise and support Native Stewardship Technicians in daily field operations including safety onboarding and skill development.
- Lead implementation of native habitat reconstruction invasive species management and ecological maintenance across municipal and partner sites.
- Plan daily work coordinate equipment and logistics and ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
- Maintain bioretention basins prairie plantings woodland areas and other native landscapes.
- Mentor technicians and support workforce development through hands-on training.
- Work with municipal staff and partner organizations to implement Vacant Lot Remediation and related stewardship projects.
- Assist with community outreach volunteer events and public-facing stewardship activities.
- Support trainings on native landscape care and sustainable land management practices.
- Coordinate site preparation trash removal planting and ongoing stewardship with partners.
- Maintain field records track progress and communicate updates to supervisors.
- Represent the program professionally and assist with purchasing and basic administrative tasks as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QualificationsPreferred Experience and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in horticulture natural resources ecology or a related field preferred or an equivalent combination of education and field experience.
- At least two years of hands-on experience in natural resource management ecological landscaping urban forestry conservation work or a closely related field.
- Working knowledge of native and invasive plant identification and familiarity with ecological land management practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or support field crews; prior supervisory or crew leadership experience preferred.
- Experience safely operating landscaping restoration or light forestry tools and equipment.
- Ability to operate trucks and tow trailers in urban environments; valid Missouri Class E Drivers License (or ability to obtain within 90 days) reliable transportation and an acceptable driving record required.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar digital tools for communication scheduling and documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams community members and municipal partners in a respectful and professional manner.
- Willingness and physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions perform manual labor and interpret field conditions to support project goals.
- Missouri Public Pesticide Applicator License preferred or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe (organizational support available).
