Job Summary

Position Summary

The APQP Coordinator (Advanced Product Quality Planning) is responsible for leading and coordinating product quality planning activities to ensure new product launches and engineering changes meet customer requirements. The APQP Coordinator is the primary customer contact and bridges design manufacturing and quality functions ensuring robust processes are in place to deliver defect-free products on time.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Compliance

Understands customer requirements and processes as they relate to production change management and PPAP (Production Part Approval Process)

Represents the voice of the customer for internal colleagues promoting understanding of customer requirements.

Provides updates directly to customers and securing plant-level support as needed

Project Leadership

Understands BorgWarner requirements and systems as they relate to production change management and PPAP.

Leads APQP activities for new product introductions major engineering changes and change requests.

Develops and maintains APQP project timelines aligned with customer milestones.

Escalates issues to closure

Change Management

Submits change requests into customer systems

Champions the approval process of those change requests on behalf of BorgWarner

Compiles PPAP documentation

Reviews and ensures readiness of PPAP information for submission to the customer

Leads all reviews of PPAP documentation to the customer

Prepares and coordinates the shipment of Functional builds to ensure on time delivery and processing with our customer to meet BorgWarner objectives

Prepare PPAP packages and manages the electronic storage

Maintains an APQP Project Tracking Log and communicates status updates to team members to ensure transparency of status is available to team members and to customers

Ensures compliance with customer-specific requirements and industry standards

Manages PPAP cage inventory and release processes

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with design manufacturing and supplier teams to ensure quality requirements are integrated early in development.

Facilitate communication between internal teams and customers regarding quality planning status.

Risk Management

Identify potential risks in product and process design; implement preventive measures.

Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues during launch.

Continuous Improvement

Support lessons learned and best practice sharing across projects.

Contribute to the development of standardized APQP processes and tools.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Engineering Quality or related field.

35 years of experience in automotive aerospace or manufacturing industries.

Strong knowledge of APQP methodology PPAP requirements and core quality tools (FMEA SPC MSA).

Familiarity with industry standards such as ISO9001 and/or IATF16949.

Strong print reading skills including GD&T

Excellent project management and organizational skills.

Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to work with cross-functional teams.

Proficiency in MS Office and quality management software.

Preferred Qualifications

Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or Shainin SystemTM certification

Experience with supplier quality management

Direct experience with manufacturing processes (e.g. machining assembly injection molding)

Knowledge of customer-specific requirements or systems

Performance Metrics

On-time delivery of APQP milestones

Successful PPAP approvals upon first submission

Effective cross-functional collaboration and customer satisfaction

Positive customer relationships
