1. Internship Topic

Systematic Review on Gender Transformative Interventions

2. Summary of Job Description

The intern will

  • Conduct a systematic review of interventions that have succeeded or failed in achieving gender-transformative outcomes. Gender transformative outcomes include reforms in laws policies and institutional systems; norm transformation; empowerment and agency; equitable distribution and improved well-being.
    • The areas of intervention that will be the focus of the review include education and skills; financial inclusion and economic empowerment; care economy and social protection; agriculture and climate resilience; leadership voice and governance; social norms and behavioral change and digital inclusion.
    • The review should explicitly differentiate interventions that focus on men and boys versus those that focus on women and girls. It should also differentiate between interventions that focus on institutions and policies versus those that focus on individual attitudes and behaviors.
    • The scope of the review will be narrowed during the internship including through reviewing current ADB projects that focus on gender.
  • Assist in organizing workshops and training events for ADB projects to develop a gender-transformative outcome monitoring and evaluation plan (OMEP).

6. Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a PhD program in economics public policy or development studies. The candidate should have already passed all coursework requirements and is currently at an advance dissertation-writing stage (one to two years from submitting their dissertation)

7. Relevant Experience and Other Requirements

  • Interest in and knowledge of the research and policy literature on gender transformation in developing countries especially Asia and the Pacific. Prior research on the topic is highly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of microeconometrics especially quasi-experimental and experimental methods evidenced through university transcripts or publications in academic journals.
  • Interest in and knowledge of the methods to conduct a systematic review. Experience conducting a systematic review is highly preferred.
  • Experience in using artificial intelligence for social science research especially in conducting systematic reviews is preferable.
  • Preferably have 2-3 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
