We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a supportive secondary school in Bury. This is a high-impact role designed for someone who can offer both firm boundaries and genuine empathy to students who find the traditional classroom environment challenging. You will be a key figure in the schools Pastoral Support Unit working to reduce exclusions and foster a culture of emotional intelligence.

The Snapshot

  • Location: Bury (Excellent links via the Metrolink and M66)

  • Salary:(Pro-rata dependent on experience)

  • Contract: Full-time Term-time only

  • Start Date: As soon as possible

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Targeted Interventions: Managing a caseload of students with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs providing 1:1 sessions focused on anger management conflict resolution and self-regulation.

  • Classroom Support: Working alongside teachers to identify trigger moments for specific students and implementing immediate de-escalation strategies to keep them engaged in learning.

  • Restorative Practice: Leading restorative justice meetings between students to resolve bullying or social conflicts ensuring long-term behavioural change rather than just short-term compliance.

  • Progress Tracking: Maintaining detailed records of student behaviour and emotional well-being providing the Senior Leadership Team with evidence for further specialist support where necessary.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for a professional who remains calm under pressure and possesses the thick skin required to work with challenging behaviour. You might come from a background in youth work sports coaching or even the prison servicewhat matters most is your ability to build trust with hard-to-reach young people while maintaining the high standards of the school.
